I sometimes do not know if I should push the like or love tab on a blog. usually it is easy, but when the blog says something bad is happening to them it is hard to decide if I should push the tab. I want to push the tab to show that I like hearing from them and that I support them but if the blog says that they are having health problems then pushing the like or love tab feels like I am glad they have problems which is not what I want to convey at all.

Like/Love comments to original post as well. Sometimes the replies are more important than the original sentiment.

= Give everyone the benefit of the doubt because certainty is a fragile thing that can be shattered by one overlooked fact.
Could be a good idea...
... But only if you can click both as some of the posts are deserving both smiles and hugs...
On the other hand, there are situations where a simple fact of presence of "smile" button could be devastating...
So best way will be to allow author of blog to check what buttons from the list will be shown to the readers. But it will be a lot of work to program it this way...

I'd Go Further
I don't believe the 'Like/Love' buttons add anything at all to this part of the site. When I post something, the comments themselves tell me whether or not I've made a useful contribution. Surely one entertaining or informative response is worth more than 100 'Likes'.
What I'd really love to see is a 'Recommend' button, but for comments rather than the original post. If there's no feedback at all it's easy to feel that your comment has been ignored. It takes time and effort to answer a point someone has made, and if you don't believe you have anything constructive to add why bother?
Noticing that your comment has received zero 'recommends' when others have lots of them might be no bad thing. It would inform you - without anyone having to dig you in the ribs, so to speak - that your response may have been poorly worded, off-topic or simply that your point of view isn't widely held. Whatever the reason, it would give you the chance to examine the way you presented your opinion and ask yourself if you could have done it more effectively.
I hope this has given people something to think about.
