So after a week of doing nothing other than forgetting all the threads and sub-threads in Julina, a week in which I learnt much from my esteemed and most delightful visitor, I decided it was time to finally polish my next Julina episode and get it up.

But first, I would peel and chop the 2 kilos (4.5 pounds) of carrots I just purchased over the border in France for about one third of what they would cost here in Switz.

And the kilo of celery.

Peel, peel, peel, peel, peel.

Chop, chop, chop, chop, chop.

Hissing sound from my left, so I put down the recently sharpened chef's knife and checked the boiling water in which I was going to blanche the said carrots.

Now a knife can fall in a myriad of ways - point first, handle first, left flat side of the blade down, right flat side of the blade down, blunt back of the knife, or recently sharpened cutting edge.

There are no prizes for guessing which one happened.

The cutting edge sliced into my big toe and nicked the tendon.

A lot of blood.

A lot of kitchen paper towels.

A quick hop to the elevator and a ride up to the upstairs neighbour.

A visit to the hospital, where I met the trainee emergency doctor on her first day and I had to point out where the protective gloves were kept, and the scissors and so on.

What should have been a 10 minute visit with a couple of stitches, ended up being a two hour sojourn.

And a ginormous bandage around my big toe to protect the open-toed sandals from digging into the gash.

Julina will again be delayed a little.

Sorry.

Joolz.

As the clumsiest member of my family with dozens of stitches and scars to show you have my deepest sympathies and hope the wound heals well and there is little lasting impact on the nerves and blood vessels.

Keep off your feet and elevate as much as possible, it's a good excuse to get waited on by others ;)

I'm told STFU more times in a day than most people get told in a lifetime

Ow!

As they say, stuff happens.

At least you got off reasonably lightly. You're not alone in being attacked by inanimate objects which fall just so.

You must tell us what happened to the carrots and celery!

*wince*

That is one reason why I always wear closed toe shoes when cooking. My father cooked for a living and he would be very careful with the Chinese chef knife when he cooked at home as he wore sandals too so I learned to be careful though accidents do happen so, yes, the closed toe shoes ... and good reflexes, have kept me out of harms' way.

Well, since you are effectively hobbled, actually this might be a good time to write while you are at home healing?

But seriously, get well soon!
