Corsets; A Warning

I suffered three ruptured disks and wore a very corset like brace for several years. Happily, the ruptures reduced, or the Vertebra fused from arthritis and no longer hurt if I do not attempt pre injury work levels.

I had two "braces" which looked like normal underbust corsets and were low on the hips. They lacked the ornamentation of a fine corset and were otherwise nearly the same. Here are some things I learned from the experience:

  1. Don't eat large meals before or during wearing your corset.
  2. You can't go running in a corset.

    No more than 4" waist reduction.

    There are serious consequences from overdoing it. I now have GIRD and a torn diaphragm.

(a) Put your shoes or boots on before your corset! You'll never be able to bend down afterwards sufficient to do them up properly :( The same might apply to tights/stockings/leggings/slacks/trousers.

(b) On no account bring the laces round the front to tie them off, even if you think you have too much slack. That is just photographers and models who have no idea what they are doing. Tying them off at the front brings the risk of kinking the bones which will then dig, horribly, into your stomach and ribs. Tie the laces at the back and then tuck the ends under the lower edge of the corset to stop the excess tickling your legs :)
