I posted a story yesterday. It got 7 comments here. I am so happy and inspired to continue it.
The thing is that I posted it at FM the day before. If people can see the story there, Vanessas Life, it has nothing. No responses, zilch. That is very uninspiring. I wondered if it just stank but I am happy about the comments here so I am considering just posting the next chapter here.
I was told that the readers at FM would appreciate the more hard edged storys like I am writing, not here. The responses show otherwise.
So I am confused
It has another part and I think it will end there. If I cam figure out where to take it from there, that will be another story. Or maybe just the third part. I am not sure
I think....
..in my opinion, from what limited experience I have that:
You don't get the same attitude toward commenting there.
Here at BC people do, and are encouraged to give comments on things they like, or give useful feed back
On FM a lot of people just read the stories and just don't bother commenting when they do like something,
those that do comment often only do so to object to something that they have a particular dislike for. Often only the trolls seem to comment there. Then again that seem to go for a lot of sites now a days.
Here Trolls are not welcome, tho everyone else is. it is a totally different environment.
At least that is how it seems to me. I would still encourage posting on other sites however.

At FM
FM's rather old-style setup forces you to go through extra steps to comment, the same with reading those comments. So it seems the only people willing to take the extra steps are the haters. They have the time and energy to spare.
Here at BC when you finish a story or section you have the immediate opportunity right then to comment or read the other comments. Whatever the reader gets from what they just read is fresh in their minds. Sometimes somebody else's comment can spark a response. And has already been said, Erin and the crew 'do not suffer fool gladly' as the saying goes. As an author you can ask to have a comment removed, its your story, you have the right to control what is seen, even the comments.
Of course there are a few rules and restrctions, but BC is really set up to make things author-friendly. Its also reader-friendly. Everything is done to allow people to discover new stories, chapters, and comments.
So welcome aboard! I hope your stay here is long and happy,

I went outside once. The graphics weren' that great.
FM
In three days, your story has been looked at a little over a thousand times at Fictionmania, that doesn't mean that it has been read that many times, just that someone clicked on the story link. Look at "story details" and scroll to the bottom of the page to see story views. Still, that isn't very many reads. Give it time, you'll get some comments.
Many people don't read stories that are not finished and the story subject appeals to a rather narrow band in the spectrum of TG story readers. You could also work on the story synopsis, it is a bit bland. I think the synopsis is the most important part of a story, it is what draws the reader in to read the story.
Mr. Ram
Youre right
It can be the best story ever but if its synopsis sucks, then no one will care. I need to learn the secret of a good synopsis
Does anyone have any advice in that area
Also!
The right tags help too!

Blurb writing
Writing a blurb is just like writing stories, you need to have strong verbs, the right nouns and a few well chosen adjectives. Remember that you want the reader to feel surprised and curious.
"Joel had bullied people since grade school, but he didn't know then that he had a fairy godmother. Orphaned at fourteen, two years later, he still felt angry, confused and hurt and his teachers, foster parents and classmates didn't know what to do with him. He might lash out at any moment, no one could tell. Enter Leanne McAdoo, the most beautiful girl in school. Joel wanted to ask Leanne for a date so bad his teeth hurt but she didn't even know him from Adam's toenail. That's when Joel made his mistake. He said, "I wish...."
Hugs,
Erin
= Give everyone the benefit of the doubt because certainty is a fragile thing that can be shattered by one overlooked fact.
"Joel had bullied people
and that is an example of why Erin's stories are so well received, when she has the time to write and post them while keeping BCTS running.
Stupidity is a capital offense. A summary not indictable.
