Does anyone know what has happened to Crystal Sprites story sight?
I haven't been able to get on for well over a week

sorry... couldn't resist. Blogs and such over the past couple of weeks indicated that there's a server issue that folks are working on even as I write.

Second sight - DNS lookup failures

When my browser told me the name was not found, I decided to do some digging. I run Treewalk DNS, so…

C:\>nslookup www.storysite.org
Server: localhost
Address: 127.0.0.1

DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
*** Request to localhost timed-out

Just to be sure, I then sent a query to my ISP’s name server.

C:\>nslookup www.storysite.org 68.238.64.12
Server: nslala01.verizon.net
Address: 68.238.64.12

DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
*** Request to nslala01.verizon.net timed-out

So then I did a ‘whois’ query on “storysite.org” and got the list of name servers registered to the domain. The second one on the list was a hit:

C:\>nslookup storysite.org NS.CYBERBRATS.ORG
*** Can't find server name for address 204.45.31.2: Query refused
Server: UnKnown
Address: 204.45.31.2

Name: storysite.org
Address: 204.45.31.2

Treewalk caches DNS lookups, so…when I tried http://www.storysite.org/homepage.html in my browser again, I got a connection.

Hope all this stuff helps someone…
