I set a flag in my account so that only certain categories of persons are notified when I post new content. I want to see what this means.
Also, should I have put "Blogger" as the author instead of my own name?

Blogger
I've always wondered about that too. I don't know whether to use Blogger or my name when doing a blog post.

Somewhere, somewhen ....
... I read a little 'small print' detail that says we should use the 'Blogger' entry for blogs. I shall go forth in search of said.....

Found it!
On the 'Create Blog' page, just under the place where we can enter the creator's name, it says:
"Choose at least one author; interactive works, use "Various Hands". For blogs and forums, choose "Blogger"."
So I take that to mean we use 'Blogger' for Blogs!!!!

I think therein lies the confusion.
I think therein lies the confusion. It says to pick an author name. So we have an author name. Should that take precedence over choosing Blogger for blogs and forums? (I guess the real question is: Is the "Blogger" choice for guests that simply want to post replies to blogs/forums, and if we already have a name should we use that instead?)

I personally see no confusion!
The template there is the same basis as the one for creating stories.
If you are creating stories, then select the author name, unless it is a joint-production, in which case use 'Various Hands'.
This is so an author's stories are all stored in that author's sub-directory.
I agree that the instructions do say 'Pick an author name' but then they continue by stating the exceptions to that.
Maybe it would be better if the word 'unless' was used in place of the semi-colon.
But as we are in the 'Create Blog' bit, then using an author name is inappropriate. It is wrong to lump the blog entries in with the story entries.
If you are writing a blog, then select 'Blogger'.
If you wish to post in a Forum, then select 'Blogger'
Seems simple to me.

See... I don't even get that.
I thought blogs were supposed to be a semi-personal area where someone can discuss their life, projects, works, etc. E.g. if someone were to blog about a story they've written, why would they not want that to be associated with their name/space within the site? Granted I don't think people really necro-thread old blog posts here, but if they were associated with the author's name it would be easier to find an older blog.
Yes, there is a tracker, but it's rather tedious to dig through to find an exact post imo. If I remember right, creating a blog with your author name just makes it one entry under your name. A lot less to dig through to find something particular. Would be even easier if there was a parent Blog section associated with each author's name. Which now I'm wondering if we could do that. I don't know, or presume to know, all the technical shizzle wizzle here. (Nor am I trying to criticize or create work for the nice individuals who run the site.)
Not trying to be contrary either. Just trying to understand the logic behind posting as a blogger vs name. I get that it is simple to do, but there are obviously some of us confused as to why it needs to be done in the first place.

I always use my name
for blogs and am prepared to accept responsibility for anything I blog about.
On a completely different subject, I had an email from BC telling me about a new fan relationship with a named fan. What do I have to do about that as I'd hate to think they thought I was ignoring them, the fans that is?

Angharad,
In "My Account" look for the Relationships tab. There's a list there including any comments.
When to use Blogger
Only Authors get an Author Name in the list. And it's only entered after you submit your first story. So if you have a author name in the list feel free to use it. However if you aren't a published author on the site, and therefore your name isn't listed, "Blogger" is provided as a means to allow non-authors to still post a blog!

Thanks. Piper is one of the administrators here, so this should be treated as Word of God.
