Not a really powerful threat

Their contract will run through 2020. If they really wanted to make their point, they would move the convention starting next year.

and they could

but at great cost UNLESS they can show that something has changed and threatens the welfare of the con. there is usually an out clause for both sides. so if enough people didnt go to the next Gen Con, and stated the reason why, and its a big enough hit, etc. then they could break contract.

The wind blows both ways.

I would suggest that there are enough businesses around such that if one excludes someone, they can just go down the street. Constitutional rights are for both sides.

its not about a single business, but the whole state having a legal excuse for discrimination. personally i agree with what you are saying, i would rather support those who support me and those i agree with than bigots, but depending on how this law is written it could be used for housing, healthcare, etc, NOT just your average business

Perhaps I was wrong.

Somehow I did not consider the full scope of the possible consequences.

Seems like you could argue that

the state has made itself a hostile environment for conference attendees and that the state now violates a conference non-discrimination clause thus the conference cannot be held in Indiana.

Sure...

...but they have already stated they won't be breaking the contract.

I would imagine, with an event of this size, they've gone into planning several years in advance. I wouldn't be surprised if they (internally) were already discussing the renewal of this contract (as a formality, really, as nothing until this gave them impetus to change), and this gives them the opportunity to step back and reevaluate.
