As a few of you may know, today is my anniversary.
Not the anniversary of my birth, although I'm now at an age where I'm counting down instead of up. Not the anniversary of my marriage, although I still remember it, I don't celebrate it. And not the anniversary of my divorce, another red letter day because I was finally allowed the freedom to discover my true self. Although, each of those days are noteworthy, along with many other special events that have taken place during the course of my life, each of which are noteable and worthy of celebrating, today is special to me and to the person I’ve chosen to become.
Today is monumental day in the life of Penny Reed Cardon; for it was on this day, two years ago that “Raised in SLC — chapter 1” was posted here, for the enjoyment of all. I had hoped to post the next chapter of Hills today, but I simply got it out to my excellent team of editors too late for that to happen. This was something that they had no control over, it was entirely my fault. I can promise that Hills — 13 will be up very soon.
I do still have a small anniversary present for all of you. This is something I received at work and I thought that this would be a fun thing to show off.

I read what you wrote with no difficulty, but then I do crosswords and am fairly good at anagrams.

The sad part is, that after the first couple of words, I can read it just as fast as I normally do. Spelling may not be important. Neither are brain cells that can talk to each other, apparently~

Slepping comes in handy...
... when trying to avoid confusion between what you meant and what you said. There are several words in the English language that are spelled (slepped) close enough together that transposing didgitis can really change the meaning of the sentence.
That said, I believe Abraham Lincoln said words to the effect that "the person thta cannot accept imaginative spelling has a small mind". :-)
An occasional missspelled word doesn't bother me much (I'm guilty of putting them in more often than most others I guess, being spelling challenged). However, rampant missspellings does bug me, as it slows my reading by making me think about individual words rather than the combined words/story.
I did enjoy reading the stuff up there. :-) Guess as I approach 50 (really closely), it's easier to join the 55%. :-)

Penny! SLC is a wonderful story. Strange that I too regard the posting of my first story as a huge step as well. I wonder if many of the other authors feel the same?
As for your paragraph about being one of the 55, Heck at least part of the time words look like this anyways with me and my dyslexia. How the word is use in sentence helps determine its meaning. :)

While it might be true that 55% of people can read the above paragraph, that does mean that almost half of the people cannot. Therefore the writer has lost a large proportion of the readers.
Do you really want to make it hard for people to read?
When it comes to checking what you have written, you fail to see the mistakes, as you read what you intended to write!

I think if you posted a story written this way the only comments you'd receive would be from the 45 people who couldn't read it. Of course you'd get a few good bits of advice as in using a spell checker, proofer and editor. LOL...

Penny sent me this test a couple of days ago, wondering if she should post it.
As I am one of the 55%, I said, sure!
But maybe that elpxains wjhy, as one of her autohrs, I miss a mspileled word when etidnig her work ( or that of my other authors, too. )
I do a spell check on everything, but the differences in flavor in this language that divides us, ( I sometimes edit for authors in 7 different English speaking countries & and in 3 more for whom English is not the primary language ), I am going to miss a few, even then. I have 5 flavors of English spell checkers, for the US, The British Isles, for Canada, for Australia/New Zealand, and one the allows words in all of the other 4, as I have a few authors who write stories with characters from several areas interacting.
Editing is a lot of fun for me, as is reading the stories of many other authors here and elsewhere ( and offline ).
I hope to be editing your stories of Matilda for many more years, Penny.
