I don't get it...
... I've not read the story, but I figured "how long is it..." was the start of "How long is it 'til we're at granny's house?" The statement that goes with "Are we there yet?" And of course the answers were typically "5 minutes less than you asked last time" and "not yet"...
I don't see how that's personal space. Just typical kids.
