Hey guys. I'm looking at barefoot shoes and I heard all about the complaints before you go warning me.
I can't say I disagree looking at some of the shoes and how they seem like they have a barefoot wrapping with a bit of shoe styling inside. Additionally some have a definite cushion aspect which I think would warp the foot and cause problems just like regular shoes.
I guess what I'm asking is if anyone has seen a truly minimalist barefoot shoe, almost like a latex sock with very little embellishment, so as to leave the foot to keep it's natural shape as much as possible.

It's very hard to describe a 'natural shape' for a foot.
Our feet are designed to be springs - that's why there are so many tendons, ligaments, and muscles in there, and so little fatty tissue.
So, when you say 'natural shape', do you mean when your weight is fully pressed down on it? When you're at rest, with your foot perpendicular to the rest of your body? Toe extended? Heel extended?
I can tell you right now that almost nobody makes shoes for high arches anymore. There's this assumption that either everyone has flat feet, or that once you've spent $80 on a shoe, you'll spend another $100 on a "custom orthotic" or similar to actually make it _fit_.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

If you want a minimalist shoe, go get yourself some moccasins - go to the Crazy Crow web site and order a kit, or similar.
You can also hit a renfaire and pick up some handmade boots or shoes. They tend to be about as minimalist as you can get.

Google five fingers. Those "shoes" should fit your criteria. You could go for divers boots but those would probably be bad for your feets.

I suggest googeling shoes for Modern Dance. there are some made which do not even cover the foot but rather provide sole and/or heel covering.eg. http://www.ebay.com/bhp/modern-dance-shoes.

Dip your feet in liquid latex rubber? If that's too thin a layer, let dry and repeat until the desired effect is achieved.

Have you heard of barefoot thongs? You can make your own to fit your size, mood, style and budget. Unless you don't really mean "barefoot"?

Terminolgy confusion:
I have observed the term "barefoot" or "barefoot shoe" being used to mean designed to be worn without socks or stockings, sometimes these are called "barefoot friendly" instead. Obviously they do Not use this term for foot where that always was intended to wear with out them such as sandals & water-shoes.
With so many online sellers they seem to use what ever term they feel like.

There is some stuff that is sort of halfway between.
The following are definitely on the heavier side of in between.
I have seen various light weight footwear with names similar to "Minimal something"
Maybe some of the light weight toed "water-shoes"?
These are kind of odd:
- Vibram FiveFingers ?
- Vibram Alitza ?
- KomodoSport Shoe ?
Or are these too heavy? They seem to be somewhere between a running shoe & sock.
