One of our worthy hereditary peers of the realm has launched an attack on nurses in the National Health Service, and went on to criticise staff in dispensaries for taking too much time to dispense drugs (he compared it unfavourable to the service he gets in his grocers, saying dispensing was a simple job). I was instantly minded of a piece by Hillaire Belloc, and I hope someone in his close acquaintance will remind him of it.

Lord Mancroft's criticism is despicable. He didn't complain at the time but waited until it suited him to do so under conditions of Parliamentary privilege. I'm just waiting until he next needs to go into hospital - whilst I'm sure he'll be treated without prejudice I wouldn't bank on it.
Wasn't his alleged bad treatment suffered in Bristol? Isn't that where Cathy's dad (from EAFOAB) is being treated?

It is a dreadful piece of work (as is he), most of the criticism is just plain class prejudice, and the comments about Waitrose staff being better trained than those in a pharmacy were just imbecilic

So how would he know? Anyway, there really arent any grocers left, tis all Supermarkets now, and the only "service" you get is when some poor waif at the till puts the package in front of the scanner till it goes "beep" then pushes it away and grabs the next item. She doesnt look at you, she doesnt do the sums, she doesn't pack it in a bag for you, she is probably chatting about what was on the telly last night with the one sitting behind her. How anyone can stand such a soul-less job beats me. There are even now some automatic self service checkouts, with NOBODY there!
I am sick of these fat old protected polits and lord whatsits pontificating about things in real life for real people, they are so isolated from OUR realities they haven't a clue.
I think we should put them all on a fancy yacht and send it on a never ending cruise, leaving us People to run our own bloody country! And I am NOT voting for ANY of them cos I would not trust one of them further than I could spit.
