Hey, I just noticed, that In Memoriam entry. What happened to Stanman? When did Stanman pass away?

Comments

I noticed it too

when I came back after having all those computer and RL issues. It saddened me greatly to see that he had died as Stanman was one of the first whose constant comments and encouragement gave me the courage to share some of my work that was set in my own worlds rather than just playing in the DRU. Stanman was one of a kind.

Thank you for the link, Jerry, will have a look.

Yes, I've been away too, Amethyst. A whole year a more to be frank, but I always thought that it wasn't that long and when I come back, everyone will be here. Or at least everyone I know will be here. It seems like it's not the case here.

Stanman has helped me a lot, especially when I just started. Even after I was more comfortable with sharing my work, he never stopped being a nice guy. Always encouraging, you see. I guess God just loves him more and doesn't want him to suffer much longer on this Earth.

Stan was a special kinda guy.

He struggled sometimes with the simplest ideas and yet, he was capable of an insight that made one stop and think as well. His contributions to my little universe, The Home That Love built, were full of love and support and hope and, while not particularly well written, they showed his heart to all who cared to look.

In the face of terrible abuse at times, Stan never gave up and returned every horrible thing some said about him, with a calm and accepting and forgiving nature that shamed his detractors for their pettiness.

Death is never pleasant, not looked forward to, save in the case of lost hope and pain. It is a part of us all and will come for all of us in our time. As someone once said, life is a serious business. Ain't none of us getting out of it alive. The length of the "In Memoriam" box saddens me each and every time I see it grow. So many there I knew and loved and the loss of every one of them lessens us, but at the same time, it lightens our hearts a little to know that they are not forgotten. Each name comes with a link to the stories they wrote and the lives they touched.

Stan never once fought back at his attackers. Instead he kept trying to find his own place and his own style. He typified the "love thy neighbor" philosophy and gave back to each and every writer and person he encountered. In this, he proved that his heart was pure and that love CAN conquer all.

Rest in peace Stan. You are in the arms of the angels now and will live in our memories for as long as any of us remember you and even beyond that. Your writings will help inspire others to follow YOUR example of love and support without judgement. As long as there is an internet, and people who remember, Stanman will live.
