Fighting illness and injury.

Since last weekend, that is, the weekend of Dec 1st, I had been fighting an abscess on the back of my shoulder. That Sunday I went into the emergency room to have the abscess lanced and drained, which they did, after some big time pain. I left with a large bandage on my shoulder, and not much else except a couple of pricey prescriptions which I couldn't afford.

I went to my VA clinic Monday because the bandaging hadn't held well and the wound needed redone. In the process, I found myself extremely short of breath, to the point where the nurses wanted to call a rescue squad for me. I managed to talk them out of it and I left there with a large bag of gauze, tape, etc.

Sometime Tuesday I came down with the sniffles. I started using ColdEze immediately and it seemed to be working. However, come Wednesday, I was down with a real time, no fooling around, cold/flu bug. Took the antibiotics given to me by the VA and they seemed to help a bit, but that whole week is pretty much a blur of sleep, coughing, headaches and breathing problems.

That has been my entire month of December up til now. the shoulder is pretty much healed enough to go without bandaging, but the cold/flu/whatever it is, lingers on. my breathing remains iffy, but I do have and have had COPD. (Look it up)

The only bright spot in all of this is, after 55 years of smoking, it seems that this illness has forced me to quit, since I hack and wheeze inordinately whenever I try to smoke a cigarette. I'm on my 4th day ws (without smoke) as of this writing. Hopefully at least this part of whatever bug has me in it's firm grasp, will continue after it has run it's course.

Oh, the urge to have a smoke is still there. I can feel it. i wanna light one up as I'm typing this, but I know what will happen if I do. Remember the hacking and wheezing? NOT fun. I DO consider this a good thing, as I have been TRYING to quit smoking, but had been remarkably unsuccessful. I started smoking when I was 11... I'm now 66... you do the math.

Anyhoo, if you've messaged me over the past several days and not gotten a response from me, this is why. i've spent a GREAT deal of time sleeping, since when I'm asleep, I don't cough as much. Sorry.
