Hi All,

Please excuse me if you know how, I know I didn't, and I also notice a high percentage of new Authors advise incorrectly if the following is accurate!

I thought it may be usefull to younger and or inexperienced CD's?

How to Put On a Bra Properly

Just because you wear a bra every day doesn’t mean you know how to put one on correctly. If you put on your bra by hooking it underneath your breasts and spinning it around so that the closure is in the back, you’re putting on your bra incorrectly.

According to the experts at Figleaves.com, the correct method of getting into your brassier is as follows:

1. Adjust the straps to the maximum length.
2. Lean forward into the cups and rest your breasts into the supports.
3. Reach behind to hook the bra on the middle hooks of the closure.
4. Put the straps on your shoulders.
5. Position your breast in the cup by slipping a hand into the cup and lifting the breast while aligning the underwire on your ribcage along the natural crease of your breast to prevent pinching of the breast tissue.
6. Tighten the straps so that they support the breasts lightly without cutting into the skin or putting too much strain on the shoulders.
7. Adjust the straps every time you put on a bra.

Signs that Your Bra Doesn’t Fit or Needs Adjusting

When helping women find the right bra, lingerie specialists at LaSenza, Victoria’s Secret and Figleaves.com most frequently troubleshoot these problems for their customers:

* Front Band Falling Down: The center front of your bra should lie flat against your breastbone. If the underwire is being pulled down far below the crease of your breast, this is a sign that you are wearing too small a band size.

* Back Band Riding Up: This common problem happens when a band is too big, and in an effort to compensate for the lack of primary support, the straps are tightened too much. Remember, it is the band that provides 80 percent of the bra’s support; it should sit firmly against your body so that it does not slide or move away from the chest during your daily activities.

* Asymmetrical Breasts: Most women are at least a little bit asymmetrical, with one breast being larger than the other. If this is the case, fit the bra to the larger cup, then adjust straps individually, tightening the strap a bit more on the smaller side.

* False Back Fat: Also known as boobs in the back, false back fat occurs when the band is too tight. Fix this problem by loosening the back strap or choosing a wider band size.

* Cups Runneth Over: When your cup size is too small, your breasts bulge or spill over the top or sides of the bra. Fix this problem by going up a cup size or choosing a style that offers more coverage.

* Bumpy Boobs: Loose wrinkled cups with unsightly bumps that show through your shirt occur when your cup size is too big. Remedy this faux pas by going down a cup size or choosing a more flattering demi-cup style.

* Seeing Red Marks: If you’ve got red marks on your shoulders and back after you remove your bra, your straps are too tight. Get over this pain in the back by loosening your straps or choosing a more supportive bra with wider, padded straps.

* Slip and Slide Straps: If you find that your bra straps are always slipping off your shoulders, you should either tighten your straps or choose an alternative style, such as racer-back or convertible styles that can be worn traditionally, crossed in the back, or as a halter style.

Getting a professional fitting is a good thing.

As to putting the bra on... Sorry. That might work for some people. But, there are some who can't physically put them on that way. The end result is important though. The girls should be well supported. The band is key to support - assuming you have a well made bra to begin with.

This applies sort-of to us guys

with gynecomastia. My breasts aren't large enough to require a bra full-time. If they were, a visible bra line in clothes wiuld be rather embarrassing. But for exercise, a good-futting sports bra is a must. (That also means my exercise is confined to the house, isolated so the kids won't see.) The only thing worse, IMHO, than no bra is a bad-fitting one.

I'm glad (mostly) that my family is small-breasted! Still, I do have the random stray though of wondering what bigger breasts and lacy bras would be like. I'll never know...

I try to get bra-fitting and wearing correct in my stories. It's always the little details...

Yes you are right of course.

Some of us don't have the opportunity to go for a "fitting"

And as you say some need help.

Agreed, Rita

That's the way I was taught to put a bra on and the way I always do it. The rules of fitting a bra I learned when I got a professional fitting, something I highly recommend for everyone, even us less-endowed sisters.

For the slip and slide straps, I actually got those "Advertised On TV" clips that pull the straps together in the back, best $9.99 I ever spent!

Great idea the SS straps Karen.

Because I can't be too fussy where I buy my Bra's I'm usually a little tighter than I need.

Have to watch those red outlines but!

I dont know ....

I always put the hook on, and put it on like a shirt. Always seemed to work for me ...

I take mine off in a similar way...

But on the rare occasions I have to put on a bra myself (I usually have a caregiver do it) I do put it on backwards and turn it around. I don't have much choice, since I can only move my arms so far behind me. So putting it on in the usual way is out.

We should work on this!

Redesign the Bra to fit everybody, any way, any how.

Now that's a challenge I could go for, I bar to be chief fitter.

Three little words...

"front closure bra"

The problem of accessibility for women of limited mobility and/or dexterity has been addressed, aside from what this article suggests. Look for them on the web and find many, many sources. 1,880,000 hits using Google. Take your pick of colours, sizes, and styles.

In addition, many "sports bras" are no more complicated than knickers, since they are rather more like camisoles and lack gaps that require closures. Some do have strap length adjustments, but some don't.

Lucky you Dorothy!

I should know one of Bailey's Angels has God's blessing, any size will always fit perfectly, right!

Ps. do the Bra's adjust to the boobs or the other way around?

It depends...

It depends on the Bra. Some (specially padded) coerce the girls to fit their shape. Others, with good support also provide "gentle persuasion" to "encourage" the girls to fit. Some (specially stretchy fabric) allow them to maintain more of their "natural" shape. But, if the girls are over a certain size, any bra that provides much support will also force a shape on the girls. Luckily they're mostly glandular tissue and fat, so they do adjust.

Bras come in many shapes and sizes... Key is to find one that not only is the right size, but to find one that fits the shape of your boobs. If you do, then the answer becomes "neither". :-)

Maybe it's because I identify

as a man with gynecomastia and boobs, but I really have difficulty calling mine "the girls" :)

I'm not disabled,

but I am not able to fasten it in back. So fasten in front and spin er around it is.

What works, works.

The constant strap adjustment thing seems onerous

The exception is for transgirls who do not have periods, with stable weight and especially if they have implants the strap adjustment step is not needed as there are not breast changes due to Periods and stuff. Of course if you cycle progesterone then your breast size may change also.

A tiny tweak once in a blue moon was all I needed for the most part when I bother to wear one as implants constitute the bulk of my breast volume *sigh* and since it is under my chest muscle it is already 'bra'ed' and need no further support. Consequently the only change to the bra for me is due to the bra stretching from wear and tear and washing and drying. In this case the tightening of the straps (which this procedure recommends) may be all that is needed.

The recommended procedure should act only as a guideline.

Hi Kim

Thanks for your input, I'm a novice in this area and the comments have been wonderfull.

I'm thinking that the experts don't really cater for the TG's as well as they should as it seems there are quite a few different needs for TG's.

Considering that there is a respectable number of CD's in the market place I think we should be better serviced, don't you?

I'm going to pass the comments on to the appropriate Bra brands and see what they say - that should be interesting!

I'll check with Erin at BC to see if this ok before I do of course.

Thanks

Bras

The only reason I wear a bra is to keep my nipples from showing. I've a 41 inch band but with barely B breasts, it is really hard to find a bra. Target is out. So I go to a specialty bra place and pay about $50 a bra.

My breasts are only about 8 years old, so do not sag so when I put my bra on I just do the hookie spinny thing, and it works fine. I never adjust a thing.

$50 Bras

Hi Gwen,

I can get 25 Bras at St Vinnies for that. By the way it's Tarjzhay!

Did you realise that in a few weeks OZ (AUSTRALIA) is going to win the Guiness world record for the largest length of Bras hooked together?

It's a charity which collects unwanted Bras plus a dollar donation for breast cancer research. The Bras then go to less fortunate countries who need them, I think (but can be corrected) the current count is about 30,000 Bras donated.

By the way I buy Bras which show my nipples, but I'm the only one who sees them!
