Space Oddities or... huh, Now That is Cool

In keeping with my penchant for posting Blogs that have nuthin' to do with being TG but are I think just … interesting

See I was doing the dinner prep the other night with the news on in the background and I sorta caught sight of some bloke doing a dodgy version of Space Oddity, a song I never much liked.

Huh me thinks, what's that about?

Then a few hours later I caught the late news and got a whole new perspective on that not so dodgy version after all. See it's a Canadian astronaut on the International Space Station doing David Bowie with a new wrinkle being that he's actually there. A few changed words and some seriously amazing imagery.

Now I freely say he's not a bad singer after all and the whole thing is just amazing. There's loads of stuff he's posted showing little oddities of space living. He's back on Earth now and readjusting after months in zero G. Who'd a thunk about learning to talk again with a tongue that is suddenly 'heavy', assorted muscle problems and stuff. I think he has a Facebook site but I didn't go there. If we had more people like this about the world would be a lot better off.

Cheers, Commander Chris Hadfield, just magnificent.

Saw that

not bad on the ears, nor on the eyes :P My question: how did he get a guitar up there with him since space (literally) is at a premium? :D

Thanks for the reminder that not all news is bad /hugs

Diana

I watched a video he did on

I watched a video he did on playing the guitar in space. The guitar is a permanent resident on the station and was carried up on a shuttle mission.

Watching the video of Space Oddity, there are going to be some really jealous earthbound guitarists out there, when they see him just let go of his guitar and have it float next to him.

And no doubt Commander Chris

Hadfield will soon be doing the talk show circuit and star in a variety of shows from this.

Mellotron!!!

Fascinating. Would have been brilliant if he hadn't changed some of the lyrics. Quite frankly the new ones jarred.

One word to whoever did the backing track. MELLOTRON!!!

Ban nothing. Question everything.

Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong-

Yeah the new lyrics were slightly dumb but I guess when you're one thin sheet of aluminum away
from air-freezingly cold (or blood-boilingly hot) total vacuum on every side you don't want to
be singing about disasters in space. Very neat that he sang it at all. Maybe he can team up
with NASA's "Mohawk Guy" and play the trekkie/comics-convention geek circuit.

Sad about the new Bowie album THE NEXT DAY.
I bought two songs off of Amazon but the rest was a real snoozefest...
