I woke up this morning, hoping that for once I would be able to log on without getting a "site down" notice, and I did!!

But instead of the familiar warm feminine pink everything is a yukky male blue.

Seriously. I will not complain as long as the server problems have (hopefully) finally been fixed.

I can't complain at all

Considering how hard Erin and the rest of the team work to keep everything working for us and the problems that they face every day, I'm glad that the site is up at all. All I can do is thank them for the hard work.

Fall back

I think this look is all fall-back minimums so the site can do something until it's all patched together again. A lot of things are not up to speed yet, but eventually Erin, Piper, & Co. will bash all the nails down and everything will be good. Just wish I had a hammer to help out!

Joanne has it almost right.

I woke up this morning, got me them sulky website blues
I SAID I WOKE UP THIS MORNING, got me them sulky website blues
Now I gonna get me a bike out, and go and buy some shoes

I went down to the chainstore, hoping to buy some flats
I said I done went down to the chainstore, want to get me some flats
But they is all sized up for munchkins, so all I said was 'rats'

I went to the outsize store, to see what they could do
I pushed past the big girls to the outsize store, just to see what they could do
The only thing they had that would fit me, well the colour made a guide dog spew.

So I got on my bicycle, and I done rode me home
I put my butt on my Brooks saddle on my bicycle, and I done rode me home
And I went and logged onto the websits, and it was pastel toned

I logged into BCTS, and I got the website blues
I said I turned on my laptop and clicked favourites and logged back into BCTS, and it gave me the blues
So I said sod this for a game of soldiers, and I opened up my booze

Now I is a girl, that's what I always say
I tell you sister I is a walking breathing honest to goodness FEMALE girl, it's what I always say
So I don't need to tell you now, it was a bottle of rosé

Back in the Pink

We're going to leave it like this for an hour or two to see if we have problems. :)

Hugs,
Erin

Well,

The colors right, anyway.

Several hours later...

...the usual purple / pink / yellow colour scheme is still alive, so evidently the restore worked :)

It's just me, but other than

It's just me, but other than the links at the top of the page, I think I preferred the light blue to the pink. I generally prefer cool colours to warm colours - with the exception of some yellows. Easier on my eyes.

Themes

If you go into My Account --> Edit, try the theme "BlueMarine" as that's where the colours were taken from for the temporary design. Of course, being a different theme you'll find the modules arranged in different places, but if you really don't like the pink that would be an option.

There is a more technical client-side alternative (userstyles), but going through several css files, working out which bit of css controls which bit of the design and changing it to suit your preferences (with all the associated trial and error) is beyond the capabilities / patience of most.

Back In The Pink

Yay! Being an anal-retentive crotchety old bat I do love the site in pink and when I finished reading the latest chapter of Somewhere Else Entirely and returned to "Home" the original colour was restored.

Thank you Admin team, for this and all your other efforts,

Joanne

Other interesting articles...

It seems as though until WWI, pre-school boys and girls were generally dressed alike. Even then, it took until after WWII for the "appropriate" colours to settle out - some trade magazines decided pink for boys and blue for girls, but eventually the popular consensus settled on pink for girls, blue for boys.

Well, I can state

Well, I can state unequivocally that boys wore dresses that far back - and ringlets. I've seen the photographs of Sir Lord Baden-Powell at an early age. (The founder/creator/inspiration of the Boy Scouts)

I don't know why people think it's so strange. It makes a lot more sense to dress small children in skirts rather than in trousers, because it makes getting to the diapers so much easier. When you were accepted to be house trained - and could dress yourself! - you were allowed to wear trousers. (or for women, additional underlayers, which included trousers)

If your parents (or other adults) felt you weren't behaving adult enough, they put your back in skirts. This was known as 'petticoat discipline'. It wasn't a fetish at the time. (Well, some might have found it a fetish, but in society as a whole...)

I don't know how prevelent the practice might have been outside of the upper upper middle and upper classes, however, because those groups didn't end up getting a lot of attention until past WW-I.

Pink is for Boys...

What? That's not right. But it is, or was. There was a time back in the 20's where the generally accepted rule is pink for the boys, and blue for the girls. The reason is that pink, being a more decided and stronger color, is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl.” As time went on, that all changed and we are left with the current norm. As for me, I like both colors. A nice fiery pink and bright electric blue is my favorite color combination. Wonder why.

People say, "You don't know what you had until it's gone." Very true, but also equally true is, "You don't know what you've been missing until is arrives."
