Hi everyone,
I've got another question that cropped up while I was writing. In TG stories girls seem to have a reluctance to change their underwear and especially their panties. Is there a reason for that behavior or is it just a TG-trope/superstition?
I hope you can help,
Beyogi

I never...
I never had that issue... They need to be changed on a regular basis for hygienic reasons... :-) I've also not seen this reluctance in the stories I've read... Perhaps we don't read the same ones?

it seems to me that its a constant given thing as most i hope do this and its common knowledge to do so with out thinking about it. i dont think most readers want to know that panties been changed or not. just my opinion
Um... I think you understood
Um... I think you understood me wrong. I didn't mean this in general, I've read at least once that girls were reluctant to share their panties with others. Even fresh, washed one's which struck me as rather odd. I just wanted to know if this is true, or if it was just something out of the mind of that writer.
Not "Change"...
...but "Exchange".
Yes. Yes "they" are. Why on earth would one want to wear someone else's underwear, even if freshly laundered?

Um... because you have none
Um... because you have none of your own? The situation is a bit complicated. Just the next step from my girls-trousers question. I have my intersexed protagonist and he needs to pass as a girl. But he only has boy underwear...
Ahhhh.....
I've never known ANYONE that shared underwear with anyone else - male or female - unless they were VERY poor/homeless and just didn't have many pair and then necessity forced it.
Beyond people's preferences, all of us are built differently, and this stretches the panties differently. It's not just TRANS girls that don't "share" panties. My daughters - even though they wear the same size - don't share!

Why it isn't good.... redux.
There was another blog thread a while back on this topic ( ...it’s normally not good to wear someone else’s underwear ).
Shrug. I wrote a detailed explaination in that thread of just "Why it isn't good...". You might want to read that...
Okay, thanks. In this case we
Okay, thanks. In this case we have essentially a dude wanting to wear her underwear. I don't know how much danger a vagina flora would be for his dick ;) but probably not too much. How about the reverse? I figure it would be essentially harmless, but maybe I'm wrong.
Your explanations rock btw.
Aside from the "eew" factor,
Aside from the "eew" factor, I think the same yeast organisms cause vaginal yeast infections and "jock itch". Also the same bacteria cause UTIs (urinary tract infections) in both women and men. So, eew, yuck, gross.

Okay... I surrender!
Okay... I surrender!
Seriously though, how do you not get this when you have sex?
Um...
You do.
So why take the chance for something that isn't as much fun as sex? :)
Seriously, the hidden idea here is that guys are NOT grossed out by the idea of wearing someone else's used underwear! Ewww! Guys are just gross! :)

You do. So why take the
Woah sex is dangerous even with people who don't have AIDS? Scary ;)
Well, I always thought that was one of the few cool things about being a guy. You're allowed to be gross - well a bit :)
*hugs*

Beyogi, just have your character
go to Walmart and buy a 10 pack for $12, they are inexpensive there.

Sephrena, I didn't ask this
Sephrena, I didn't ask this for fetish reasons or something, it's just a question that cropped up while I wrote the story. It wasn't even my protagonist that brought it up... But yes, the question has been sufficiently answered now. In any other reason I'd have him run to Walmart or Campusmart, but in this case it doesn't work ;)
Whatever, thanks everybody for your help.
Panties
Most women I know carry an extra pair in their purses, along with wipes and a pad, you know, just in case.
You've got it right Gwen.
As an intergendered transexual I change at least once a day cos I wouldn't feel comfortable in 'old knickers' secondly, I actually enjoy washing MY OWN undies. It gives me a greater sense of femininty to do this very private and necessary thing. I wash them separately from our regular household laundry which in effect means I wash all my own underwear cos' I don't have any male underwear.
Tights, panties, bras, body-shapers and all my intimates are hand-washed by me alone. Most of my panties are of the 'sports' variety and usually stretch Lycra cos they are the most comfortable.
I certainly DO NOT share my underwear though on two occasions my wife and I have accidentally mixed up some identical turquoise panties that we both bought at M&S within a day or two of each other. We had a bit of a giggle over that when I was getting undressed for bed and she first noticed we had the same panties.
I would hate to have to wear panties for more than a day and if I'm off clubbing, I take a change of tights and panties in the van. Sometimes, I've worn a bra for over 24 hours but it starts to hurt after a day. Usually this is when we are at an all night clubbing session and I've chosen one of my favourite sexy bras.
Knickers
I don't know about a spare pair. I used to go to creative writing classes with a retired SRN/Midwife who simply carried her knickers in her bag rather than wearing any :) She didn't wear mini skirts though.
I have shared cycling shorts with my wife occasionally and, as everyone knows, nothing is worn under them so it's like underwear. I also 'inherited' some very good shorts from a cycling friend who died - fortunately I didn't catch anything although some of his strength would have been a good thing as he was an ex national champion.
I seem to lack the 'eeww' factor that make many people squeamish,; I don't know why but a lot of those things just don't bother me. Perhaps being brought up in the austerity of the war may be a factor.

Exchanging cycling shorts is even worse
Have you ever considered the fact, that most modern cycling shorts have padding sewn in? While in ancient times they have been made from leather and with correct washing they may have been okay for sharing, modern cycling underwear has Gel pads. (rather complex soft silicon structures)
Even thourougly washing would most likely not get all germs, yeast, etc removed from the pad.
Due to the pressure on that relative small space it's deeply embedded in the pad.
Once the cyclists start to sweat again those germs will resurface and voila, you can get a nice infection yourself.
Happy Cycling and take care of the even worse motorists ;)

i remember this debate from somewhere...
this topic has been brought up before.
anyway, the answer to the question is that it is a cultural difference.
Clean undies are clean undies... no matter who they belong to.
There is a certain "gross out factor" that exist in certain cultures. I know that 'Most' American girls view sharing of panties to be disgusting. Of course some cultures think that eating a fish head is gross, while others drool in anticipation of a good dinner.
re girls and panties
Girls usually change panties often. Sometimes several times a day. What they don't go for is anybody else wearing their panties.

I don't share my briefs with anyone. I think the last time something like that happened was when I was about 13 years old, and a friend who was visiting from out of town and was staying for a few nights, for got to pack his underwear. I had to lend (make that give him a pair) until my mom washed his used one and then bought him a few more .
In the context of your story however, if the protagonist had a girl friend, who was supporting him in his exploration or transformation, I would not see it as unplausible that that girl friend would give him a pair of her panties to wear. But, I am sure it would be a gift, not a loan.

want to get girls talking?
Ask about their undies, apparently! :D
Peace!

Yeah seems like it. And they
Yeah seems like it. And they just don't want to share. :P
Well I do carry
2 extra brand new ones, still taped in a roll, in separate ziplocs in my purse in case anyone needed on in an emergency. It's just plain decency.
Sephrena
I think you mean exhange as in trade
Girls know from an early age the uou dont share anything that touches your vagina with anyone else because your coochie has different bugs in it than other coochies and that can cause a yeast infection which is mesdy, sticky, itchy, smelly and gross and takes days of applying creams to get rid of. We also dont share makeup for similar but less gross reasons
while on the subject
Since you're discussing girls and panties, you might want to know that many modern young women do not like the word "panties" and prefer to use a more general "underwear."
Thanks, I really didn't know
Thanks, I really didn't know this. Um... this could be a good plotpoint for my story, thanks for mentioning it.
on the other hand
a young TV/TG might very much prefer the term panties
Don't worry...
Many still call them panties (living in a house with three others - wife and 2 daughters 16 & 25) - gives me a little perspective).

nevermind, thiswas a stupid comment that only an idiot like me would think is funny.

I resemble that remark!!!!
