I am finding myself somewhat disillusioned...

I've been posting a story for someone that is REALLY excellent. It was originally posted only on Fictionmania and as I know a lot of people don't frequent that site from here I asked him a few times if I could post it here. The story called "Dancing on Daddy's Shoes" is one of the best if not the best I've read in ages for this genre.

I find the number of reads rather low, and the lack of comments especially sad...I guess I feel I built up BC/TS to Mark, and maybe his story to you folks and it's not being given the chance. Maybe it's just the season and all the other stories being posted right now..?

I posted chapter 4 earlier tonight and think I'll hold off of chapter 5 until things slow down or someone asks about it...I have the whole completed work on my hard drive. It's 17 chapters that get better and better if more people would bother to read it...

Sorry for no comments or reads, but...

Sorry for no comments or reads, but I had previously ready it on FM and actually found it to be quite profiessionally written and well thought out. I got a little confusing towards the end, but the big finish was a masterful stroke of genius. Let Maark lmow his ois professional level.

With the number of reads so low, it's hard to tell if people just don't want to read it (maybe cause it's me posting?) they've read it already on FM...or something else...the lack of comments and the low read numbers are frustrating is all...I bragged on this site and how well I thought the story would do on here...

Thanks again geekydee!

I found it on FM as well...

... and read it religiously, although I found the machinations of the SRU wizard to be particularly awful, even for him. It's a very good story, full of drama and conflict and self-discovery. I'm sorry if Mark isn't getting the readership (or the comments) you'd like him to, Alexis, but remember what a hungry audience you have here. Most folks will have followed it throughout its release on FM. To be honest, Dancing on Daddy's Shoes was so emotionally draining when I read it the first time that I've actually avoided opening it here because I don't want to go through it all over again so soon. I need to let it rest for a while before I go back and read it again.

Which I will, eventually. Because it's very very good. *smiles*

Me, too

I know how good Mark is. I even reviewed a major part of a story he did many moons ago in email. I, too, read much of this on FM. There's a lot of overlap between the two sites among BCTS readers -- not necessarily so with FM readers. In my experience, if a story starts here and finishes on FM, it'll get more hits. Weird but true.

I knew when I started posting it, that some people would have read it over on FM. Just the people I'm closest to on here all seem to have a phobia about going onto FM for any reason. I figured with so many apparenly skipping FM that it would be a worthwhile story to post on here. It's just not generating many reads and virtually no comments so I don't know what to make of it, should I continue posting it here?

You're right, it's an excellent story ...

... but I read and commented on it when it was posted on FM. In fact I was very disappointed with it at first and didn't feel the early chapters did justice to the rest and said as much. I'm a huge fan of Mark MacDonald's writing and was concerned that the quality of this one wasn't up to his usual standards. I still don't like the early chapters very much (I'm setting a high standard here, remember) but it develops into a compelling and absorbing story I'd recommend to anyone.

It's difficult to judge the response when a story's been posted elsewhere first. I suspect most of us aren't exclusively BC readers, though a lot of us come here first, so we'll have read (and probably saved) this latest one. For completeness I posted one of my old stories here that had received reasonable reviews at FM (and Story Site IIRC) and that didn't get much response probably for the same reason. There's a limited readership for this stuff.

Sorry,

As soon as I see magical transformation, I skip it, not my bag at all even though it may be a wonderful story and well crafted.

Very grateful

I am very grateful you posted it here. I would not have found it on FM. In fact i wasn't really planning to read it when i first noticed it here on BC - i'm not a big fan of magical transformations or SRU-stories. But this blog post convinsed me to give it a try, and i'm glad i did! The story is just as excellent as you say it is. I immediately became captivated and had to jump over to FM to read the rest of the chapters in one go, totaly screwing up my sleeping schedule! XD
