Just ran into another story here where the "new girl" is told how to get into a car.

You know, butt on the seat, legs together, pivot...

What do *tall* girls do. Ones where if your butt is on the seat the top of the door frame hits in the middle of your ear. Or even on your neck on some car models.

There's *no* graceful way to get into most cars when your body is that long. Not even in boy mode.

Having to practically *crawl* into cars is a royal pain. :-(

into cars when your tall is a pain in the butt , as i am 6'4" tall i find pulling your leg closest to the vehicle then side sit while leaning forward a bit then slip both legs in as you pivot , kind of like sitting on a tall bar stool with your legs crossed to one side if you have ever rode side saddle on a horse its the same way it helps me doing it that way . getting out is the opposite pivot legs first then lean forward and step out with help if your in heels or you could by a big ass truck and have no problems lol i hope this helps this may not be graceful but when your tall it works

I've run into far too many

I've run into far too many cars where I simply *could not* get in unless I got my head in first. Not possible to "lean forward" enough if any part of me (butt or foot) was in the "proper" place on the inside of the car.

Y'see, the seat back and door frame set limits on how far I could be bent *forward* while getting in, too.

Or the ones where I'd have had to break my neck to get my head bent enough.

Getting out tended to be butt first as the *least* embarrassing method. Except for the one car where I had to sort of grab the doorframe and seat back while half laying across the seat and scoot my feet out first. Then sort of crabwalk out.

And I'm only 6 foot. But way too much of that is in my trunk (in men's pants I have a 31" inseam)

Getting in and out of Cars

I'm 6'1" with a 32 inseam. There is a restaurant here called Islands... The booths have tall backs and when sitting I'm usually the only one in the place with their eyes above the seat back. Getting into most cars is a trial for me. On my De Ville I have my seat cushion tilted all the way back ( low in the back and high in the front) and the back leaned back quite a bit. When I get in with my bum against the seat back and leaning forward, my head still hits the roof and since I'm usually wearing a hat (Ausie outback hat) I knock it off 80% of the time. My boss has a '90 Corvette and it's a chore getting out. I have back problems so I sit first and swing my legs in so I don't twist my back using my arms to spin. In most cars my head hits the ceiling unless I lean the seat back. In his daughters Celica I sit in the back seat with my head cocked over at 45 degrees or sit on the passenger side with my feet behind the driver so I can slouch.

Usually I have to move the seat up and lean the back back so I can 1. see out of the windshield and 2. reach the steering wheel. I used to drive a '68 VW bus and I'd lean on the steering wheel to see out.

When I learnt French

I was taught that the translation for "to get into a car" was "monter en voiture".

That had been 'handed down' over time because the original translated back into English as "mount on the carriage..." as the teacher carefully explained that was what you did. You climbed up to get in.

But that French lesson was in 1959, the year the Mini was launched: small, low, and only two doors. And the teacher went on: "... but nowadays you get down on your hands and knees and crawl in."

Minis are a boon to rump-fetishists. "Does my bum look big in this?" ... "If you're getting into a Mini it does!"

That last bit...

That last bit recalled something that the kids at my elementary school had to say about one of the 6th grade teachers. She was not just tall... She was VERY LARGE. She drove an MG Midget... The comment was wondering how she got in/out (we never actually saw this happen, as she was there before we got there on the buss).

Another approach to a tall person getting into a small car - Wilt Chamberlain drove a VW Bug... He apparently had the front/driver's seat removed, and drove from the back seat. Probably not practical for most of us.

Here's another DIFFICULT job being graceful... Try getting into a BIG truck (My experience was with the big Dodge Ram...) There, I had to climb up into the cab, quite a leg lift... And to get out. I turned, and slid down. All I can say is it's a good thing I wasn't wearing a skirt/dress...

I never saw Wilt in a bug, but he had a Bently ...

And it was a 3 seater, with only one seat on the driver's side. But he still had to awkwardly climb in.

Back to the main subject, have you ever watched the general public get into cars? I have, and I've seen very few women who do not just get in, even in a skirt, then lift their bottoms to straighten out the skirt. In pants, they get in just like men.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
