Just returned home after spending christmas in hospital, had a stroke on christmas eve causing me to lose my mobility and speach, turns out I have a tiny hole in my heart, probably there since birth that caused a clot that blocked the vessels leading to my cerebellar for long enough to kill a number of cells that control movement, speach and balance.
My speach and balance are better now but my left arm has problems with fine motor control. I've been told there was evidence of a previous stroke and will need to have the hole in my heart blocked to prevent further risk of stroke.
I'm due to go back in hospital in 4-6 weeks to have a procedure performed to seal the hole. Hopefully you all had a better christmas.

I have a friend who not only had a stroke but was recovering from the loss of her husband.
Sometimes it rains, and sometimes it really pisses down.

I find it hard to even imagine being one of those who want to go back to the land, to the simple life before machinery and the sciences.
Of course, in getting rid of 95%+ of the population to even be able to think about it, of coursethey will be in the tiny percentage allowed to live, because they are special.
Of course, a hundred years later, the population would be even smaller, because they would find they didn't know enough to survive without many things they take for granted now, like doctors, hospitals, and fast transportation to get to those wonderful life saving things.

Vascular does get you
Be it in the heart or in the veins it certainly can take a toll. I had vascular replacement surgery on my right leg last April.
I give God all the credit for me still being here. I am still having problems walking but I am alive and enjoying life on a new level. I've learned to slow down and smell the roses and reaps the friendships I have.
I belong to a group that is diminishing, actually two groups, Viet Nam combat Vets and Operation Deep Freeze, Det alpha. once were there as a group no one else could come into our group. On the sixth of January we will be having amemorial service for one of our combat veterans.

Yeah, that does sound like one of the suckier Christmases. I'm sorry it happened, but glad it led to finding that hole in your heart. Now hopefully they can fix that and you won't have a much worse stroke from it.
SURVIVING a stroke at Christmas is better than the alternative, I suppose. The last few years, I've lost two beloved uncles, on or just before Christmas.

Thankyou everyone for your concern, one thing hadn't mentioned earlier was that the doctors found evidence of a previous stroke.
This now begs the question, did the previous stroke cause the problems with my hands and if so were the 2 operations to free my ulnar nerve pointless.
Hopefully I can get answers to those questions soon.
I'm still hopeful of a full recovery but it will probable depend on the answes to those questions.
This stroke affected my cerabellum which controls fine motor skills and balance etc, if the previous stroke was in the same area then it possible it caused my hand issues.
I will let you know.
