I just found out that Anne McCaffrey passed away Monday, November 21, 2011 after having had a stroke. The world is now a little darker place without her glowing wit and untold stories. Requiescat in pace

She has been...

One of my favorites for over a decade. Pern was the first place I went in my adventures in fantasy reading. May her soul rest in peace.

My love of the scaly critters started reading her books. I've had to purchase the first 3 Dragonrider books several times since I read to pieces. Another of my favorites was 'Restoree.'

Fare thee well.

I'd say it is a lot darker

I'd say it is a lot darker world without Anne McCaffrey.

Not just for her Dragonriders of Pern stories, but many of her other stories, even if I did not like them all.

I' met her three times, twice at book signings, and once at a Science Fiction convention, where, needless to say, she was author Guest of Honor.

She was sharp as a tack on almost any subject, not just her stories.

Her son Todd has taken over the stories, and his first efforts were good, but I am disappointed in his last two, especially the very last one.

I have everything she wrote on the Pern series, and have probably given away 3 times as many used paperbacks to get people hooked on the stories. I even have the very first Magazine version of the first stories. Interestingly, one of the 'oldtimer' weyr leaders changed names from the magazine novelette, to the paperback, and again form there to the hardbound.. off the top of my head, I can't be sure, or in what order, but the three were, I think, N'ton, T'ron, & T'ton.

Anne, you will be missed. Nobody I know of has developed an entire society as well as you did.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

I agree.

One of the best and most entertaining. I'd have to say that Dragonsong, and Dragonsinger
will always remain some of my favorites, because they sort of remind me of stories I'd like
to write.

I agree Dee, that the world is a little darker tonight, but thanks to her, many will always
remember other nights, and moonlight rides on dragon's wings.

Thank you for letting us know.

A Lovely Writer

Why do the good ones die young? Yes, I know she was 85 and the last few books published were either co-authored with her son or appeared under his byline.

She made dragons into wonderful beasts. I hope the Dragonriders will have a flypast at her funeral and may her future be Threadless,

Joanne

You just ruined my night!

She was one of my greatest heroes-I absolutely love her work. I was not aware of her passing, and I thank you for posting the news, however bad it may be.
