Heard this on BBC Radio 4 this morning while I was having a shower (I rise late now I don't need to go to work :) ) Evan Davies is investigating 'Deception' as a topic and in this case he's interviewing Penny, a MtF TS about how she felt compelled to hide her true nature for so long. It's a very sympathetic treatment which seems to reflect the experience of many here from what I've read.

She was born in 1951, 11 years after me, so I know only too well the atmosphere and attitude of the general public to unconventional gender and sexual conditions, for want of a better phrase.

for those who can get BBC iPlayer.

It was okay

as these things go, but why is it they never quite ask the right questions? For those who don't know the interviewer is one of Radio 4's 'Today' presenters who is openly gay.

PS Don't forget My Transsexual Summer tonight at 10.pm on Channel 4

To be fair to Davies, ...

... his brief was to question the concept of 'Deception' rather than transsexuality itself. It was how the perceived (and real) need for deception affected her and her family and friends.

I should confess my admiration for Evan Davies. He does some really interesting programmes about business and finance which are quite revealing. He's not quite so abrasive as his colleague John Humphrys even though I suspect from his name, like Humphrys, he has Welsh roots and you know what those Taffs are like ;)

I'm in Indianapolis, Indiana, US

But apparently we have no problem getting BBC radio, while we ofter do with BBC TV

I have a registered connection that does let me receive some BBC TV, but I did not need to use it to get this program, so I expect almost anyone can get it.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
