I wish that when a multi-chapter story is posted there could be some mention of it being four years ago when the author stopped writing ... without a conclusion and no other stories since.
If more is planned that's great .. say that somewhere ...
but to drop in a story that has no end is sooo aggrivating, i really dislike jumping to the last chapter to see if it is complete. It ruins the story.
i'm pretty sure that everyone knows what other web sites are available and re-posting a story when it seems there is no chance for it being continued *sigh* seems to be a waste when this site has so many good stories yet to be moved from the old server which, i've read here is a drain on resources and should be shutdown.
if someone thinks a story is good enough to be given a recomendation that's wonderful... do a blog to say why, where it is located AND if it is continuing or ended OR JUST HANGING.
Yes, a grouse,
after hours and hours of reading a grand story that just goes 'poof'... that's me

I agree with you Suna
but at times the author has died so continuing is rather difficult unless another is willing to take over the aeries in hiatus. What is much worse is when the author has stopped writing because of nasty comments and stalkers.
May Your Light Forever Shine
Im sure this is directed towards me
and Suna, If that does happen, I will mention it. I have not yet posted such an animal but several are looming before me. I will mention it as a caution on the first chapter top heading to ensure you are sufficiently notified. I myself hate being teased and then tortured by the same thing. I do care about the readers - despite the large amount of negativity I am experiencing towards me doing my job here at BC. I am not a ruthless bitch. I do not blindly censor. What I do, I do at the behest of Erin. Anything I do, I do because she asked me to. This is her site. I DO place myself between her and authors at various times to seperate out arguements and work them out so neither side gets pissed enough to cause BC to be shut down. I help run this site, It's Erin's though. And I place helping authors first before trying to carry what I'm supposed to do in all reality. Same thing with pure commenters. I try to reach them first, deeper than Erin may do so herself. When it fails, I am left with no choice but carry out what I am supposed to do. It's my job.
Please understand I Love this Site, I love our authors, and We are a family. I will do everything I can do to keep us together and talking. That is my priority and want. And in the course of doing my Job, I listen to others as well. Since what you said is a real concern for not just you (me as well) I shall do it that way. I have avoided doing those stories as I havent felt quite what to do with them. So , thank you for making me think this out and... I do hope you appreciate my work in reposting them. Its either that or we lose them when the Ateros server gets reformatted.

Not necessarily. It could be me too...
I'm sorry that's happened to you Suna. I have not posted anything incomplete. I have made sure that the stories I have are complete.
I have left gaps between postings where an author has created a serial as I think that is the best way to deal with them.
I have experienced a sudden crash in a story called Lemonade on Sapphire's Place. I read fifteen long chapters and thus far over a year (or a reallllllly long time anyway) there still hasn't been an update.
I still really want to know what happened, but so far nothing.
I have even tried contacting the author, but to no avail, so I would hate to be party to such a thing and ensure all the stories I pull across from Classic BC are complete.
Happy reading Suna

I was reading 'Making Lemonade' while it was still being posted
and then saw it just stop. That was shortly after I began reading TG stories, and the last part was posted about 6 years ago!
I've posted two stories here, so far, and have a third in the works. They are sequential and follow directly on a story by Maggie the Kitten. But, I've tried to give each a definite ending, so that if I never posted anything else, nobody would feel that the story is unfinished.
I have my own list of about 5 stories I would like to see finished. I only have hopes for 3 of them left, however, and one of them had been on hiatus for 4 years.
Another unfinished story on Sapphires site, 'Tails', seemed to have died, and then was taken over almost seamlessly by a second author, but then stopped again in Jan 2003, so I have little hope for it.
Crystal Sprite did 65 parts of 'I Can't go Home Like This' before it went on hiatus, but she continues to promise she will finish the story in 5 or 6 more parts. I expect she will, but I'm not holding my breath.
I agree with you that it would be wonderful if the sites would post a warning in the Synopsis when a story has, or seems to have 'died'
Sephy, I expect you to do so, as you are conscientious on what you are doing. I appreciate what you have done and are doing to move stories from the original Big Closet, both to let Erin close it down, and, to bring them back into the light.

One of the most difficult things to give away is kindness.
It usually comes back to you.

Re-posting stories found elsewhere
I try to think to add a copyright date to my stories for the reason mentioned and as an attempt from someone trying to claim the story as their own.
One does not know if she will live another day or not or become disabled (such as a stroke) so that she cannot write anymore. I am in hopes that, if anything happens to me, that someone else will bring my stories to an appropriate conclusion.
My copyright notice is not intended to prevent anyone from re-posting.
Love,

this has nothing to do with
this has nothing to do with bringing stories from older BC servers.. those belong here too no matter how old or incomplete.
i'm speaking of stories brought from other large sites to here when the story is long dormant and even have a site link on BC.
anyway, i didn't name the story so this does not become a personal issue. i know they have good intentions.
No BC policy
There is no BC policy about reposting stories from other websites, even incomplete ones, except that if it is done by other than the original author permission should be obtained. This lack of policy is deliberate, considered and official; it's my policy not to have a policy discouraging multiple postings on several sites.
Every story is incomplete until it is complete, so I also don't have a policy about completeness or incompleteness except that incomplete stories on the old BC servers will be the last ones moved over by me or my volunteers.
Nor do I have a policy requiring incomplete stories should be labeled as incomplete. That seems like self-fulfilling prophesy to me plus if such a story is ever completed someone (likely meaning me) would have to be aware of it and go back and remove the incomplete label.
I realize that incomplete stories give some people an itch in the hippocampus; I'm not allergic that way but I sympathize in that I hate to watch only part of a movie, even one I've seen many times. Serialized stories are not unitary works like movies, however, and I think trying to treat them as if they were would be a policy mistake for an author-centered website like BC.
Those are my policies and non-policies on the topic. :)
Hugs to all,
Erin
= Give everyone the benefit of the doubt because certainty is a fragile thing that can be shattered by one overlooked fact.
Storys
I too have storys that have no ending, as for Making Lemonaide the author is sick and can not get it done, a second story called Soccer girl that author is also Ill and can not finish the story, there are other out there I would like to see finish and some that started and have not been added to and am happy they didn't that's just me. I do write but as of yet have not had the guts to put it on the air waves, i'm just not that good and know it but I do like to write them even if i delete them. Some of favs that are on going are Being Christina Chase, love her, College Girl, Working Girl and a few more but there are some I loved to never see again, it's ok. But let me tell you how much I love the storys here I waited for the last Harry Potter book to come out, got it and had to see how Christina was, still havn't opened the book.
