I stumbled upon a site that mentioned a site I didn't recall by name.

Story Site This is of course "Crystal's" storysite but I didn't recall at the time so I clicked on the link.

I was quite disappointed when the site didn't load so I googled it.

so I tried the links in google but it was surely down.

Has anyone heard if Storysite finally died or is crystal working on it?

A news update would be appreciated.

Dayna.

Without the WWW

Try it without the WWW. Or use the link to StorySite on the front page in the site links up top.

Erin

StorySite DNS

Piper's picture

The Current Problem is as Stands...

We control 2 out of 5 DNS servers listed on the StorySite.Org domain.

Due to needed cost cutting, and restructuring we had to move StorySite and many other sites to a new server that gives more performance for less cost.

I have changed the DNS entries that we can control to reflect the new server, however 3 of the DNS servers are beyond our control and still reporting the old DNS entries.

For those that wish, and I don't usually recommend this, you can edit your "hosts" file and point www2.storysite.org www.storysite.org and storysite.org to the following IP address: 204.45.31.2 .. I'm not feeling great at the moment, and I'm sure someone will follow up my post with correct procedure on how to do this, so I will leave them at it. :)

For windows machines, open

For windows machines, open Notepad (start, type 'notepad' in the search/run bar, and hit enter)

Go to 'file' then 'open.' (it may require administrator rights on some systems.

The file in question is c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

(no .txt, just 'hosts')

In the file, you should see an IP address, then a name.

Put in this in, just like it looks.

204.45.31.2 www2.storysite.org
204.45.31.2 www.storysite.org
204.45.31.2 storysite.org

Then hit 'file', then 'save'.

I take it you don't have any control over the registry at Advanced Internet Technologies, or MNSystems?

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

I'm running Windows 7

LibraryGeek's picture

I'm running Windows 7 Professional, and c:\windows\system32\drivers\ exists, but no etc\ and no hosts in the existing sub-directories. Using the search function didn't return hosts, so this nifty trick seems lacking in Windows 7.

Or I could edit the view

Or I could edit the view options such that I can see hidden files/folders, which I hadn't previously done on this system.

I tried all day yeasterday

with my minimal skills to get to a working page to check something there. Nothing. It is like the domain name has expired and it went to all kind of pages advertising porno sites and other sites. Even using the link at FM, and here nothing. Even this morning so far, it just folds up and dies when trying to get there.

Stacy, read the replies

Stacy, read the replies above from Erin, Myself and Bibliophage please.

Link to storysite here does work

erin's picture

The link here at the top of the front page DOES work. If you are not getting to the site, something is wrong at your end. Especially if you are pulling up porno sites, I would suspect that you have a virus. Sorry.

Erin

web site filters

to everybody
if your having problems with getting the wrong links from your 'puter and a lot of adware, the following 2 sites
might be helpful.

1) is for a application/site called hosts adblock, and also at the bottom of the page are some nice editors for the hosts file,
read the site fully, please. especialy for the windows 7 os, there are 2 reg keys that are recommended to use,
http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.html

2) is opendns, they have a really nice dns level filter, i think its $10.00 per year, but you can customize it like crazy,
and it if you do it like i do and put it in your router, that means even if your leave your router, everybody hitting it
is still subject to your filters, and for a house with roommates/kids its worth it.

and if you are really a geek and you want more control of your router, try reflashing your router code,
with stuff from these people,www.dd-wrt.com

hope this helps some people
