First Megyn Kelly, a Fox news anchor took the above mentioned Doctor to task for his "Chaz Bono Comments 'Adding To The Hate'." (I did not see much of this, so cannot comment on this) http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/14/megyn-kelly-keith-a...

Last night Bill O'Reilly had the (not)good doctor on his show. While O'Reilly could have asked tougher questions, he did refer to Chaz as "he," "him," "his," and "Mister Bono" the entire interview.

Dr. Ablow did slightly backtrack, saying that part of his objection has to do with an increased mortality rate of Transpeople because of hormones they take.

A bit of good news though, Dr. Ablow resigned from the APA.

all blow over soon. The "good" doctor may as well try and catch the wind.

many written by the same people sqabbling or agreeing with each other, quite entertaining for a short time but gets boring after a bit.

Sadly as a liberal minded person, I have to accept Ablow's right to state his views. In return he should allow me to state mine and a balanced programme would show both and let viewers draw their own conclusions.

However, it appears that even when you prove someone wrong over an emotionally determined viewpoint, it makes then feel they are right even more than they did before. I suspect we only change our core ideas and feelings after personal experience which shows us to be wrong and a long time to mull it over.

I think...

I think Dr. Albow's statement that the increased mortality rate of transsexuals on HRT is CAUSED by their use of the hormones is more "speculation" on his part.

Yes, the life expectancy of one of us who have gone on HRT is statistically lower than the general population. However, there's no study showing what the life expectancy of one of us is/would be without going on HRT, etc. when needed.

I'd be willing to bet - that if they could do such a study, they'd find that the general trans life expectancy is lower than the national average - irrespective of HRT... And, that those who do get help, go on HRT, etc. Many DO have a LONGER life expectancy than those who were denied HRT when they needed it.

All that said - proving it will be VERY difficult, as who do you deny the care to - in order to have your non-cared for sample?

I don't know if his resignation is a good thing or not... As a member, he had to follow the APA - at least to some extent. Now, he's a Psychiatrist who can do what he pleases.
