I am looking for a good author who is willing to help me tell my life story. I am a 32 year old man, I have lead an average life for the most part, except I am ADHD and I am sure I have some other mental issues, after all ADHD is a mental illness. I have had battled with myself and other and life has not been easy. You may want to know how my life will make a good story, well sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll are involved along with drama and love. I am trying to get treatment for my issues and get my life on track. I would like to get started on a Bio ASAP. I am hoping people who have family, friends, and or children with ADHD and other mental illnesses can lean from it and know how to help or handle someone like me, It's by far from easy and can cause a lot of stress and even lead to fights where someone might say something they might regret. Me 2

Dave!

Me too. ADHD and I've been on meds for over twenty years.

Sex, you betcha. Drugs... well my Neurologist accused me of self medicating. Rock-n-Roll... well, does having sex with the lead singer of a band count?

Flying off the handle... not so much since the drugs.

The one best qualified to write your life story? I'd have to say, you.

Now that's not to say that you shouldn't have someone like Amelia, Bob, or someone else proof it when you're done, or even have them do it in stages as you write.

I'm just going on the advice of Samuel Clements.

Good Luck,

Holly

Only YOU can write your story, David What you need is an editor/proofreader.

...what he's asking for is help writing. Not everyone can write, and many who do write, only write for themselves or don't write well enough to be published, but still may have a story to tell. Only he can TELL his story, but it may mean telling it through someone who has a sympathetic ear and eye and can put into words what only he can express in thought and idea.

Thank you

Yes only I can tell my story. but I am not a very good writer, I can't even find the time to write it. So if you know anyone please have them contact me... and oh' yes please if they have a sympathetic ear and eye that would be a huge plus also if they can do it with out judgement.

First Step

The gatekeepers in the publishing business are those who print books for money. They have the distribution channels lacking in the self-publishing world. If you self-publish and self promote and are very fortunate, you might sell several hundred books. If a publisher distributes your book and you do the right things, you might sell several thousand.

The first step is finding a literary agent to promote your book to publishers. They will want to know how your book is different than other ADHD bios. You should go to your local bookstore and look at what's out there.

I checked Amazon for ADHD books and found the market to be well-served.

That doesn't mean yours might not the one that really helps people.

The "how-to" write books warn against writing bios about your health problems because so many people do it and it's so hard to get published. Yet, every day we see a new book with a first person account of overcoming adversity.

Good luck to you. I feel I have to warn you to stay away from ANYONE who offers services for a fee. The literary world is a very frustrating place with roughly 25 million would-be authors and about 5,000 actual new titles published each year. There are active conmen who leverage this frustration to wrongly take their victim's money.

Thank you

Thanks for the heads up on the conmen out there. I am not out looking to make a bunch of money, I just want to try and help the world understand mental illness. If the writer and publisher make a good buck off of it then cool, I will just take a small chunk of the pie and go on. I think what would make a good story out of my bio and different is a that everyone who has ADHD is different no two are the same, just like a finger print. Even if the book doesn't go big and only helps one person, then I am happy and I at least got to tell my story.

Many people understand ADHD and know how to treat it and most people know how to handle people who have ADHD My main goal is to try and get people to feel my story and feel what it is like to be ADHD.

In answer to your question

I am unsure as to what you are asking for.
Are you asking for a ghost writer or someone who can proof read/edit your own written word?
The only way to communicate your message as you want would be to write down your own experiences and pass it to a proof reader for spelling errors/gramar.
Only you can convey the emotion of your own life experiences.
Try writing a rough draught by yourself and then pass it on to someone who can see the possibilities for the making of an interesting story.
Be brave; put pen to paper or keyboard to word processor.
You may surprise yourself as you write. First rule for an author;always write about what you know.
Hey your half way there already.
Good Luck.

More on my book

I know what everyone is saying, that I am the only one who could or would be best to write it. I just wish I could, I don't have much time in the day as it is. I am a full time single Father of a 5 year old little angel girl, whom by the way has ADHD as well. Also I am helping my mother out with my step Father who is not well and can not get around very well, and in return she helps me with my little girl. Also my ADHD is not under complete control so to keep focused long enough would be tough.
