... because to watch them whittle away at Joe until they drove him mad would be too much for me to take. It was hard enough for me to put the poor man in that horrible position in the first place, and it took a good long while for me to figure out how to save her from what they did in such a way that she can finally get on with her life.

You have planted an idea in my mind, though. *smile* I might write a "before the abduction" story, so people can see the kind of man Joseph Stark was, without actually putting him through that hell. I hadn't actually thought about doing that before, but it sounds like something fun. I'll put it on the list of things to be written. I've got a few things on there ahead of it, but you've got me thinking, and that makes me dangerous. *grin* You never know ... it might wind up at the head of the list.
