Little Silky, the model for Randi Lewis Deere's familiar, managed to get latex house paint on her paws. I think she may have cleaned her brother off, too. He brushed against a freshly painted door. He avoided a barrier and brushed by the door. Of course she washed it off - not using the tap at the sink. I first noticed she was drooling a whole lot - drip, drip, drip. She's a bit unhappy with the painters tresspassing as it is, and knows of 20 more hiding places than we do. She's vomited several times, and is drinking a lot of water on her own. I've talked to the veterinarian twice, and he assured me all will pass. Just keep her hydrated. She followed her brother, Sully, to the food dish, and ate a little. Still, I worry a lot. We lost a cat about 55 years ago when he got into paint thinner. That still keeps me awake at night sometimes.
Silky just went to her water fountain. She also ate a bit more. We'll watch her closely tonight

Modern latex paints are not terribly toixic, to humans at least
they took the mecury anti-fungal compounds out several decades ago.
But cats are odd. Asprin for instance is very bad for them.
At a minimuim I would call a vet you trust and ask what the risk is if any and what to watch out for.

Never vacume a cat either.
Well, along with not allowing cats to paint, a few years ago I learned that they should not be vacumed either. We were remodeling my daughter's house and in the process of installing a new beam, the front room ceiling drywall came off and made a huge mess in the room. Well, everyone was hauling things out to the dumpster, and I was using a huge shop vac to suck up the blown in insulation. Well the cat was black and the insulation was white so. The cat loved me so I picked her up and started sucking the insulation off her. I got too close to the "other" end of the cat and she put it in 4WD and ran right up my chest, my face and over the top of my head, leaving deep, red claw marks all the way.
The strange thing is that after they got me bandaged and cleaned up, the cat got up in my lap, purring.

Silky is definitely not a happy camper. She's not throwing up as much but still drooling intermittantly. I was folding and sorting laundry, and she insisted on getting up on the bed. I made a nest for her in the clean towels. They certainly can be washed again. She even kneaded and pummled them a bit before doing a 270 and settling in. She is definitely not chipper though.

I've got 6 cats (and 4 dogs, 2 rats, a few fish, 5 monsters (I mean 5 teenagers)) and we have 1 cat who gets into everything. I swear, he has to be working on his 10th life...
I agree with the vet, as long as she gets lots of water, she should be fine! I'll be praying for her!

Not Really Their Fault
Cats have problems believing instructions from humans. "You don't really mean that." "You mean I wasn't supposed to rub up against that freshly painted door?" "I'm going to clean this off my paws so that you think my brother tracked that across the floor." "Yuck, that stuff's awfull."

She needs to be more careful. It's well documented that when a cat becomes accidentally painted, there is a strong likelihood of a libidinous French skunk showing up to woo her.
