Rick Reilly is by far my favorite columnist. His “Life of Reilly” appears on the last page of Sports Illustrated. For years I’ve read Sports Illustrated from back to front. Many times his column is all that I read, but I try never to miss it.

This week’s column is a shocker. He wrote about a friend of his, a past co-worker on the Los Angeles Times, Mike Penner, who is now Christine Daniels, who still is a sports writer for that paper.

He talks of how good-looking she has become because she now is smiling a great deal. He speaks in positive terms throughout the article.

He has some trouble, fumbling with pronouns, but has absolutely no problem endorsing her transition.

Who would have thought Sports Illustrated would carry such a piece?

Every day the world changes a little

Every time I think of giving up, of not doing this, of struggling on with the life I had before, I see another little sign that gives me hope.

The more we face the world with pride, the more we will be accepted.

Thank you for posting this, Jill.

I think I read something of her when Jamie posted that link to the Newsweek thing a month or so back. She seemed quite positive about the liklihood of keeping her job as was, rather than having to switch to another role as she thought possible.
To have an article like that, written by a presumably regular guy in a very largely male readership magazine is really nice to see. Not that I have, but the idea of it is great.

Can't help but get a smile for that one. Thank's Jill.

Thanks Jill

Maybe there is hope for us humans after all! Is there a link to this article or do we need to purchase a copy? The LA Times web site has Christine's blog entries "Woman in Progress" in which she talks of Rick's interview.

Drop dead gorgeous

Her Pic is easy to find on the internet. Compared to me, she is drop dead gorgeous. As we all know parts of life will be a bitch from here on out. I wish her all the love in the world.
