AUTHOR'S NOTE: When I first began to write this story, I had a good idea where I wanted it to go. I had a plan. Then, unfortunately, the story got the bit in its mouth and simply began to run away with me. The story is currently in a blind alley that is not heading anywhere I would like it to go.
I have written between 3k and 4k words for the next chapter. Unfortunately, I keep deleting everything I wrote and starting over. About the time I did that the fourth time, I decided that this story was a lost cause.
I was interested to see where I would take me, and unfortunately, it has not taken me far enough. I apologize to everyone who was enjoying this story.
This does not mean I will never end it. It simply means that I would have to rewrite it before I continue. I'm not really up to rewriting it right now.

Every professional author I've ever met
has told me the same thing. Some stories simply will not go where you plotted or the characters develop the way you planned. And they to a one told the same solution: to put it the entire story, notes, planning and all on a back shelf and work on something else. Come back to it when you want to see if your prospective (or the characters!) has changed. Some writers had rigid rules about how much to time between attempts, "I will look at this story again in 1 year, no sooner." I figure, whatever works for you.
I do like this story. The idea that somehow she is the latest incarnation of a living key or catalyst for the human race is interesting...

I agree with Janice
Put the story somewhere safe, and leave it at that. Put a couple of reminders in the next few months, and voila. :)

I'm sure version two will
I'm sure version two will blow away the competition.

sorry the story wont continue, for now
I rather liked it. Hopefully, you can get back on track with it at some point.

No apologies necessary
You've said straight out what the problem is, and that the story isn't going to continue at present, or as is.
You didn't abandon the story, or offer excuses.
You don't have anything to apologise for.
Thanks!
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
I've lost stories, too.
So I understand what you mean. Sometimes things just don't go the way you'd planned originally. I myself have several like that, and have people still asking about them. Eventually, I'm sure what I need to finish them will show up but until it does? I just have to wait along with everyone else.
So yes, put this one in a nice safe place so you can come back to it when it's time. No apologies needed.
