Being a Victim Sucks

It's curious, I just watched the Bond equality thing and pondered on it. Thought it was quite good actually, if a little static.

Anyway, I am aware of abuse and violence and the general low opinion that people such as myself and many here are regarded with? In? Whatever. Still it was largely academic.

That is until last night....

.....when I was assaulted by a neighbour, just after dinner 7.30pm heading out the door, abused and punched in the face 3 times. Blood all through the entrance way to the units where I am and a lot of screaming and yelling.

Then call to the cops wait about for 40 mins or so covered in blood with a tea towel to my face. Basic details taken then driven up to copshop for a statement. Had to arrange a puppy sitter... An hour later all good but I needed a pee, fortunately... Then they drop me at the local hospital where I get seen by the triage nurse and then sit, for 2 hours. Finally

Hmm...nasty... I need says doctor to nurse...ummm...another half hour or so while they hunt down suitable fish-hook needles and assorted 'thread' . A lot of rubbing and wiping damn that hurt.

Then needle... "feel that?' 'Not really ' A dozen or so stitches a tetanus shot and finally, 'oh.. your nose is swollen we'd better Xray...another half hour... finally done and yep small fracture see ow you go 'here's a letter for your GP. On yer bike...No they didn't say that. They were over all pretty good as were the cops. ~~ 2.30AM~~ Walk the k or so home, pick up puppy, she pees her bedding in the night, nerves.

So assault charge to come. Court appearance at some point. Copies to managing agent for legal proceedings..Such fun.

So my devastatingly winning smile is likely to be a little crooked on the left side from now on, not just from my often wry look at life. More drama to follow most likely.

And just so ya know...drinking your morning coffee through a straw SUCKS.

Grin...Owww

Hopefully

They'll throw the book at that jerk.

You poor thing. Having had a bit of that myself, a bag of frozen peas does wonders. Hope you don't turn all black and blue but might not be able to avoid that.

It's good to hear that the hospital and the police weren't too bad. That can make a bad situation so much worse.

Take care.

Hugs,

Connie

What set the bastard off?

Wow, that sucks absolutely! It's tempting to want to know details, to try and make some sense out of what he did, whatever the hell he thought he was accomplishing, if he was drunk or something, but not that tempting...

I hope the worst is over, that the court appearances will come and go quickly and this POS won't pull some kind of victim-blaming nonsense, but will actually admit responsibility and show some remorse. I feel horrible for you, and your dog too (they really feel these things) and hope everything gets better for you quick.
~~hugs, Veronica

Well, maybe that a$$hole will have the book thrown at him, after being bound by iron and steel.

Very sorry you were assaulted.

It is awful when people do that to each other. Hopefully, in the future, that will not happen again.

I hate to say this, but I have so far been quite fortunate, and I am thankful for that. I hope you heal soon. The emotional part will take longer and I am quite sorry.

Much peace

And just when we thought the situation might get resolved.

Folks, I don't think I am violating any confidences by telling you that Kris has had trouble with this idiot and his family before, although until now it didn't come to violence.

The problem will be, that even if he has form, he will probably get off with a fine and a binding over, and if he were to be sentenced to a stretch in jail that still leaves wifey and nasty daughter to carry on the spitefulness.

Neighbours are the worst form of enemy and these are just steeped in malice. Kris has not been the only recipient of their bile. They have harassed others in the complex as well.

The best hope is that they will get evicted from their flat as this is the latest of a series of transgressions.

In the meantime, Kris, just get better,

Love,

Jo

Thanks guys

Not really my 'thing' to Blog like this but sometimes... anyway I can't go into too much detail nor should I. he has been charged so that stuff will follow. No black eyes but a somewhat broader than normal nose and a little darker on the edges. seriously muppet lip though which is a pain, literally. Can still taste blood too, ack. so it goes or something huh.

Be good everyone.

VPO

Can you get the court to issue an emergency Victim's Protective Order? Not really much of a defense, but if, as, and when he violates it that usually (here in the U.S. anyway) piles on the seriousness of the charges.

Just a thought.

working on that

kristina l s's picture

The equivalent anyway. Has to go through the process, AVO (Apprehended Violence Order) but the cops said if there's any drama at all hit 000 that's the local version of 911. And I never go out the door without my mobile. I think if there was further trouble the cops themselves would do a PVO (Personal Violence Order...I think) They action that on the spot but it's not the automatic procedure. Then I'm working a bit blind on all this, never had much to do......

Kris

Dial code

000? Never heard of that one. Did you mean 999? Do tell.

Penny

000

Oz, I believe.

Yes

kristina l s's picture

Triple zero 000 is the Australian Emergency number, you can also use the international 112 on a mobile phone. 999 is the Brit one and 911 in the US. I'm sure there are other variations.

Kris

Well

Emergency Number

Canada is also 911. I've never heard or 112 so I don't know if that works here or not. It would be nice if all countries could standardize on the same code; that way international visitors to a country wouldn't waste time trying to find out the correct number.

I hope this jerk gets what he deserves.

My thoughts are with you Kristina.

Arwen

mobile phones and emergencies

the GMS system has an emergency call system. it's not an actual number that is called.
most phones are "localized" in that the usual emergency number is called, an emergency call is made.
mobiles made for the north american market use 911, european 112.

the important thing to remember is: even if going abroad, the emergency number is build into the phone. so a european phone will get you emergency services by dialing 112 no matter what the local emergency number is, even with a local sim card.

That number

What if some mad assailant has turned you upside down in the UK?

I hope things work out.

Been there, done that, and it's no fun. Just don't give up and don't let that jerk define you.

Hugs,

Maggie

Oh damn!

I just wish there was something practical I could do.
Here in South Wales I work with the LGBT association and provide safe housing for my tenants. I have even been instrumental in getting a bad neighbour evicted from a house not belonging to me by adding to other tenants concerns about one abuser's behaviour. He was a nighbour from hell and abusive to other LGBT people in the street.
Dear Kristina, I just so, so wish there was something practical I could do.

Ive seen the consequences of transphobic attacks and I've also experienced them myself many times as a child.
Fortunately the police are moving forward rapidly in many parts of the country on these issues and for that we can be truly grateful.

The sad part is that no amount of so called ASBO's or restraining orders or any other sort of legal device short of a prison sentence, has any effect on these vermin. Eviction will help but then some other unsuspecting neighbourhood will end up getting the shit dropped on them.

My solution is to create a ghetto (Preferably next door to The Houses of Parliament,) where our stupid parliamentarians can learn to know what it's like living next door to animals who have no understanding of decency or normal behaviour.

I'm so sorry for you Kristina I hope you receive satisfaction and criminal compensation from the courts for the treatment they have allowed to be meted out to you by not addressing this family's behaviour before.

You deserve it!

Hugs for comfort.

Beverly.

Ghetto

Create a nice large tower block around the corner from Parliament, and use it to house both the antisocial idiots and the (dis)Honourable Members. That would also solve in a stroke the other problem of MPs fiddling their housing expenses...

Meanwhile, in relation to Kristina's original post - do you have any friendly / supportive neighbours who can keep an eye out for you if you need to enter / leave your accommodation when Mr. Nasty (for want of a better name) is in a foul mood? Meanwhile, it's probably a good idea to buy yourself a personal attack alarm - 80+ dB of noise is likely to both divert his attention from pummelling you, and draw the attention of anyone else in the vicinity.

Interim Orders

kristina l s's picture

for those interested in such things the initial court hearing for my AVO (restraining order) application was this morning. It seems that I need to wait till the Assault is heard which will be another few weeks but the lady Magistrate asked if I wished interim orders which I did. He had a chance to ask me about my 'fears' but tried to go Perry Mason and was shut down on the spot. Interim Orders granted in my favour and the rest to follow. Somewhat nerve wracking this court stuff, but so far all good. Plus my lip while still a bit lumpy will I think not be too bad. We shall see....

Kristina

Good Luck

Good Luck and best wishes. I hope things go your way on this.

Connie

Thanks

kristina l s's picture

I appreciate the thoughts Connie. I think it will be okay. 'He' did exactly what I expected and tried to play the victim so that can be shut down. Still, something I could do without.
