People have all sorts of reasons for going AWOL.
By my reasoning, there's nothing to be gained by worrying about something that one has no control over.
It's what friends do
They worry when somebody they know and like and care about suddenly drops off the map. Too many people disappear and you never know what happened to them. A friend cares what happens.
