Sally Bend is an author, editor, columnist, and reviewer. Although shy and polite (she is, after all, Canadian), she loves to boldly and boisterously express herself through stories that bend the binaries of gender and sexuality.
Bending the Bookshelf is where she hangs her bra and panties at the end of a long day, a blog for book lovers with open minds and open hearts. Sally is dedicated to the power of creativity, the wonder of originality, the delight of curiosity, the beauty of diversity, and the joy of imagination. She believes that the true power of literature is its ability to celebrate as mainstream what others dismiss as alternative, and to imagine a world where the alternative is the mainstream.
Her focus at Bending the Bookshelf is on trans* literature and trans* authors of all genres. She is welcoming of all positive explorations of the trans* experience, regardless of the labels used.

No thanks. The use of
No thanks. The use of "---slut" tells me that this is written by and for misogynists and there are too damn many porno sites of that ilk already.

Misogynists? Where?! Where?!!?
I thought it was a pretty cool book review site. I didn't see any misogyny there and I am REAL sensitive to and quick to get angry at that sort of thing. The first article (dated 2/05) was "100 young adult books for feminist readers"; and I saw nary a nekkid picture that would indicate the presence of porn. I think the use of the term slut was self ironic, a greeting my rl girlfriends toss around on occasion, but then we're pretty low rent and not genteel; tastes and interpretations of this site might vary. I'm interested to know what others here think of it...
