In case anyone's been wondering what I've been up to lately, I've finally moved from the pre-planning stages to the actual writing on Book Three of Becoming Robin.
I already have the first chapter down, and the first page of chapter two to give myself a jumping-off point when I sit down to start writing again. It's still pretty rough at this stage, but I'd rather be writing and going back to change things later than spending anymore time planning.
It's to a point now where the ideas are practically demanding to be written out, if not in a proper chapter, then on the life calendar or in my notes. :-)
Hmm. I did put 'teaser' in the title, didn't I? Okay, I don't want to give away the main "Oh #!@%" point of the first few chapters and leave you waiting to see what the heck is going to happen for however-long it takes me to write this beast, so I'll post an excerpt for a more minor plot point that comes up right at the beginning of the first chapter, and let you draw conclusions from there :-D
She turned back to face me, giving me a forced smile. I pulled her into a hug just as Jennifer and Nicole came around the corner. They immediately ran over to us, Nicole practically shouting.
“Oh my God, what happened?!”
I stroked Allison’s hair as I held her, letting her cry on my shoulder as I responded, “Mark dumped Ally.”
Jennifer scowled as she stepped closer, putting an arm around her. “Ally I am so sorry! You know it’s his loss though right?”
She sniffed, letting me go. Nicole pulled a tissue from her purse to offer as she added, “Really though. And this close to V-day? Christ, he can be a blockhead sometimes, but that was just cold.”
Allison tried to smile more genuinely. She failed, but it’s the thought that counts. “It’s okay. Don’t blame him Nikki. We only dated for like a month or two.”
“That doesn’t make it any better,” Jennifer advised gently. “I mean, rejection sucks no matter the source. Come on, let’s get you cleaned up. Robin, would you let Coach Wilson know we’re going to be a little late?”
Again, that's straight from the rough draft of the first chapter, so I apologize in advance for its ... well, roughness, and in any changes that may happen between now and when it's ready for posting.
Love (and giggles ;-)),
~Zoe

Bad Zoe, Bad!
Bad Zoe, Bad! Teasing us like that.
And ohhhhh, Allie! *sniff* I agree with Jen, it's his loss.
"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
I aim to tease ^_~
Although the whole Allison/Mark thing is at present a relatively minor plot point, I still managed to have a bit of fun with it. Poor Mark's in the doghouse, and he only makes it worse for himself ;-)
Valentine's is going to be a fun scene to write too. I don't know about larger schools, but for me, watching all the girls get roses and chocolates, and these huge balloons was always a lot of fun. Just seeing the looks on their faces when they'd walk into the office, or when one of the girls would walk into the Journalism department or whatnot... *grin* But I've said too much.

I swear, I've learned more
I swear, I've learned more in the last year about teenage girls in doing research for Robin. I couldn't count how many hours I've spent reading up on things like the Girl Scouts, decorating tips for tweens and teens, and now I find myself lost in the interesting and unique world that is competitive cheer/dance.
I'm sure a few will inevitably hate Book Three just based on the fact that yes, Robin is interested in cheer. It's inevitable. She's an athletic girl, interested in gymnastics and Kenpo, and cheer is a natural extension of that. :-) It should 'make sense' within the story though, I promise. It's another one of those "It wasn't Robin's idea" things, but that's all I can say.
I mention it here as sort of an extension to the teaser because I just realized that I've been about the last hour or so doing nothing but reading about cheer competitions, with quite a bit more to go.
I probably won't even use half of what I learn, much like how I only delved into the scouts as much as the story felt it needed, but I am quite enjoying the learning experience, and with any luck it'll bring some interesting twists to the story (Let's just say, a temporary shift in location is in order ;-))
