Here's a link to a CNN story about a couple of studies of LGBT youths. As is to be expected the major focus is on gay students.

America world leader????

OMG!!! Americans are so proud of themselves for being the greatest country on earth. I f this article is true, I SAY BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!! I am proud to be Australian being gay or lesbian is spoken of quite openly. I live above a coffee shop the one guy who works there is openly gay and admits it. I work at a retirement home my co-worker tell the staff abot his experiences about how he has all these guy running after him, and how he like men with hairy chests. On Saturdays I usually go to a place called the taxi club a trans- club and am going out with someone from there.
I must admit to there being bigotry here as well, but if it becomes public knowledge sometimes there is an outcry - especially in Sydney - ok I get it people are free to do what they want, even hate and fear, thats democracy. But freedom to be is also democracy. A couple of years ago on Big Brother the whole country watched a guy come out on national tv. He didn't win but came 3rd and when he was interviewed with the shows presenter they brought out his boyfriend and the pashed - a big kiss- for everyone to see.
Come on America move into the 21st century.

Strong opinions are okay BUT....

Your long string of ???? has totally screwed-up the main page here at BC.

Please don't bash other countries. The govts, the politicsthe and people are not the same nor are all the people all the same. Lumping everyone together is steriotyping. Plus the media views of anywhere are bound to be slanted and inaccurate for a variety of reasons.

If I wanted to be argumentative and unfair I could point out that Australia can hardly claim to be a beacon of light in the world. Look at how the aboriginals were treated. But then I doubt if any nation of imgrants that colonized another land treated the natives with much respect.

Let's face it, we're all sods to some extent. Okay?

So grin and bear it and ease up on the flag waving or burning.

sorry

Sorry - I'm not usually like that.
Just reated instead of responded.

Much better now

No biggie.

The occasional oops is okay.

Just realize when you may have gone to far and have the humility to fix it. You did exactly that and thank you.

And never muck up the front page of BC or a story with a huge continuous string of characters or symbols as the word wrap in BC won't break it and the margins get all messed up.

I defend your right to speak freeley but mess up the layout of BC. I'll murderize ya!

Much Progress In GBLT Awareness.

I agree that there has been so much progress in the US, inspite of the fact that we were saddled with the Judeao/Christian ethic. I remember my stepfather threatening to kill me in the early 50's. Now, people have finally laid the blame for GBLT suicides at the feet of those who cause most of it; the intolerant.

Oh, and John, remember that the colonists and pioneer Americans purposefully committed genocide on the American Indian with disease infected blankets and by stealing land deeded to them by treaty. Yeah, our own history is not so lilly white. I was always told not to speak of my own Cherokee heritage. It was a dirty little secret.

Oh, and I think that both the Australian and the New Zealand governments have both apologised to the Aboriginals. I think our President should too.

Hopefully, we have only just begun to see people of our ilk being treated like real humans

Why The Surprise?

Not to sound cynical, but is anyone surprised the focus of the story referred to in this blog entry is on the GLB portion of the equation? The only reason there is even a 'T' in GLB (t) even if it's a little t is because no one at HRC or any of the other GLB organizations wish to be be labeled as Hypocrites as they were in the '90s. So the folks at HRC and people like Barney Franks take in transgender tokens and always make an effort to add the 't' the the GLB.

Yeah, yeah. I know. I'm a bad person, a heretic, the Queen of Hate, etc, etc, etc. But anyone who has worked on behalf of TGs and has had to deal with the movers and shakers in the GLB community knows that we're still the red headed bastard at the family picnic.
