My lovely mum is terminally ill and is not expected to live for much longer.
I will be reading the great stories on the site as time permits, (it helps take my mind off things) but I won't be writing anything for a while. As soon as I am able, I will continue with the stories.

Please give yourself permission to grieve for your Mum. It is a natural thing, and happens to us all at one time or another. If we resist it, it overcomes us anyhow, at great cost. At risk of sounding like some sort of wise chinese guy, let it flow through you.

It's a very tough place to be, I know, however it is ironic that some kind of work is better at leavening the pain as I found out when I had to deal with both of my parent's deaths. If I had sat around watching the tele or some such I would have gone crazy as the tele only passively engages your attention and I found I started to drift back into thinking upon what was to come. This was especially true for me even two day's before the funeral for my father.

Thoughts are with you
My warmest thoughts go out to you and your mum.
I have had to go thru the loss of my mom. There isn't a day that goes by when I don't think of her. I had to put my mother in the hospital on Mother's Day back in 1995 and she passed away 4 days later. They had to do a triple bypass on her heart. The doctor said that although the operation was successfull, her heart wasn't strong enough to come off the machine. I myself, think what she actually passed away from, was a broken heart. She wasn't the same after my dad passed away in 1992.
She was a wonderful and much loved person. There wasn't anyone who didn't feel that way about her. I am sure that you feel the same way about your mum. It will be hard for everyone right away, but with family and friends around, they will make the loss bearable. I have my sister that I couldn't live without. Even though I am the family elder, she is my rock for when I have to pour my heart out, and I am there for her when she might have a problem that even her husband can't help her with. We have always been there for each other.

I hope you and your mum are able still to talk.
For these fin al times are the ones you will remember, these are the days when, if she is able, you will have to pick your times and your questions carefully. For when she dies you will always remember the questions you forgot to ask.
Yes the times will be hard but by giving yourself a task that does not upset or enervate your mother but gives you something to help occupy your life and yet ease the pain. Thus by talking AND LISTENING you will help yourself and your mum over that final hurdle. She will savour your attention; you will adrress unanswered questions and this will help you in later life when you feel alone as most of us do when we approach older age.
I wish you love and comfort during these times. But you must talk. It is important.
