South Carolina’s first car-free Bicycle City is about to become a reality. The new Bicycle City will be located in South Carolina’s central midlands region near downtown Columbia, home to eight colleges and universities and the convergence of three rivers. We have begun building miles of hiking and biking trails and will hold an exciting ground breaking event on December 11. Bicycle City has been covered by Bicycling magazine and Next American City magazine and will be featured in Outside magazine’s December issue.

Ceremonial Ground Breaking Event Day
Join us on December 11 in making history as we host a ceremonial ground breaking for the first Bicycle City! This all-day event is a great opportunity to meet others with an interest in Bicycle City.

Speakers will include Anne Lusk, foremost expert on bicycle greenways from the Harvard School of Public Health and Ozzie Nagler, internationally-renowned architect and planner of Harbison and the Seoul Olympic Village.

Activities include:

Tours of the land

Bike rides, kayaking and hiking. Bikes and kayaks will be available to rent.

Car-free design and planning sessions

Volunteer trail building and organic farm creation

Displays of vintage and innovative cycles

Art and music

Overnight accommodations will be available in our cabin. Nearby camping and hotels are also available.
