Here is a very brief history of when seamed pantyhose was first introduced in the United States. Maybe people who leave comments about stories should do their research first. And yes they did have seamed pantyhose in 1961. The seamless pantyhose is what was first introduced with the introduction of the min-skirt. I know how to do my research. Does anyone else? In 1959, Glen Raven Mills of North Carolina introduced pantyhose invented by Allen Gant. Pantyhose are a combination of underpants and stockings all in one garment.
With the addition of an opaque nylon top, panthose eliminated the need for multiple "foundation" garments. In 1965, Glen Raven Mills developed a seamless pantyhose version that coincided with the introduction of the miniskirt. Allen Grant is the descendant of John Gant, who founded the textile mill in 1902.

I can certainly confirm that seamed pantyhose was for sale in the USA Boston in Early 1962. I have my Seaman's dischargebook in front of me with the date of the voyage to Boston clearly enunciated as January 1962.
I remember buying some seamed tights, (panty-hose) along with the usual collection of Wrangler denim jackets and jeans with a view to selling them on in Liverpool and Rotterdam. They caused a sensation in Liverpool when we produced them in the club. The girls went straight to the lavatories and put them on when they bought them. We nearly caused a riot the first time and the bouncers had to come and rescue us. At first they thought we were selling drugs or something then when we showed them the 'tights' (as we Brits call them), they simply told us to sell them outside on the street. By them my shipmate and I only had about 20 pairs between us and there was almost a riot in the street when we ran out of stock. By the time of the next voyage (March 62) seamed tights were readily available in Britain.

I remember the introduction of the gastly things. At first I thought they were quite sexy, but later, when dating, they were an impediment to conquest, DAMN!
When Gwendolyn came busting out she tried panty hose at first, and as it was winter, was fine with them, but later as the weather warmed up she got quite hot and actually developed a case of claustrophobic hysteria over them. They began to bother me one afternoon on the way home from the office. On the bus it was all I could do to not rip them off then and there, in front of the other passengers.
When I finally got home, it was all I could do to avoid screaming as I took them off!
Those things are truly evil, and for me it is stockings and garters if I wear anything at all. As a Muslimah, it is mostly nothing.

You have of course missed the most important aspect, which is that research into stockings and yights is best conducted by someone you are fond of.
I Was Referring Solely To The UK…
…where Mary Quant invented the Miniskirt in 1965 (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miniskirt ) and sold it from her premises (called Bazaar) in the Kings Road, Chelsea in London. Seamless sheer tights were certainly not readily available until some months later, and many girl friends who adopted the mini preferred stockings on health grounds because of the dangers of thrush.
