So here I am, the whole night off to write, and I'm sitting here staring at the screen. It's not that I don't have ideas, I have a whole bunch of notes right here. I even have two thousands words written so far of my new story. And yet...I can't seem to get myself into the mood to write. Even worse, I look at what I have so far and it doesn't look very good to me.

I guess I'm paying for pushing myself to write so much last week, because now I'm in 'hyper critical' mode. Since a lot of you are also authors, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about!

I know the answer is to go do something else for awhile until the urge to write comes back, but this 'blah'-ness seems to universal. A friend asks "hey want to go see a new movie?". Blah.

I have some movies I have yet to watch on my computer. Blah.

There's a few video games I haven't finished yet. Blah.

I'm not even tired, and I'm wondering if I should just go lay down until I have the energy to do, well, anything!

Then write. Don't write on something, just open a file and write something, anything. Copy a political tract or a recipe book or something. Do that for about five to fifteen minutes. It usually gets me off the dime. :)

Hugs,
Erin

Ok

I'll give it a try, thanks for the advice. ^_^

People assume that time is a strict progression of cause-of-effect...but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly...timey-wimey...stuff.

I don't drink, but my brother swears that two sixpacks of beer, followed by a bad hangover, usually kills writers block. Sounds stupid to me, but it works for him!

Could it bee ?

It sounds about the same phenomen as with the soldiers that were given amphetamine, as that would keep them awake for long time. It made them able to march for longer times, but sleep deprivation made then unusable for what soldiers normally do in war, kill with prescicion. Let your subconscious work with your ideas and take a day off writing. I think that will give you and your stories a new start.

Thanks for the advice

I've been trying to get my sleep schedule back on track, reading a few books and watching some humorous movies (the "Gamers" movies in particular; so true to life!). And in the interim, working on this monster of a new story. I think it's far from my best, but it sure is taking a long time to finish. Mostly because, as I write it, I realize there's still a lot more yet to be written; with luck I'll have something post-worthy by Monday.
