My sister was up here a couple of weeks ago. While she was here she told me that she had contacted our father. This was a bit of a shock. She had not spoken to him since 1999 shortly after a big fight at her wedding. I my self have not spoken to him for a couple of years now. She urged me to give him a call and try to work things out. It's funny. Before I stopped taking to him it was me urging her to contact him and work things out. I want to speak with him but I'm worried that if I do that things will go back to the way that they were. When I would call him he would bug me about giving him grandkids and then he would jokingly question my sexuality(espeicaly if he was drunk). That's why I stopped talking to him. I could not deal with his crap any more. I have enough trouble with my gender and sexuality issues. I miss him but I just don't know if I can deal with that again.

The big question
is it really worth the pain and can you deal with not knowing why it's resurfaced after this long. I'd probably get in touch with him but by phone first, and if they don't have your home number then use a public phone and a calling card. I've friends that've been harassed after so called reconciliations. If it's on the level then you were just being careful and if it goes sideways then you're hurt but safer.

Hey, it might just be me, but...
I always go with being forgiving. In a Piers Anthony "Xanth" novel, he discusses an idea that is central to my real philosophy. It's called Tough But Fair. I go in willing to be forgiving, and if the other person continues to be negative, I'ma outa dere! I don't need more negativity in my life, and if they insist on being that way, I figure they don't think much of me, anyway.
I have always believed that people should have the chance to be forgiven. If they won't take it, turn around and don't look back.
This just means that the ball is in their court. You did what you could, now they need to decide on your value to them. Good Luck, and remember, there are always two people in an argument. Try to see things from their side for a minute. If it feels like you would have to remove brain cells to see their point, well...
