Ruled unconsitutional. As I write, no word on a Stay

Apparently there is a stay.
Almost as soon as the decision was announced the clerk entered an order for an early hearing on a stay of the judgment until after the appeal. A stay until that hearing was also granted. That hearing is on Friday. (Sorry sometimes it's hard to hide those three years I spent at law school) Basically, that means that there will be no marriages until at least Friday. (I heard there was one couple that managed to get though the scrum and get married before the stay was entered, but don't know if that is true.)
On Friday the trial judge will decide on the stay until after the appeal. That would be granted only if there would be irreparable harm done by acting on the judgment at once. I can't see how there could be! (but I might be biased.).
whether or not the 9th will grant an expedited hearing (I can't see them rejecting the case (and we don't really want them to; a DC decision doesn't really have much effect as a precedent.)), is a big question. How quickly they agree to hear the appeal, will indicate whether or not they like the effect of the stay/non-stay.

Truly good news
love doesn't recognize gender and neither should the law. I'm all for the separation of church and state to a point. But that's another subject. I like to see people finally letting people get on with that "In pursuit of happiness." thing that goes along with "All men are created equal." bit in one of the founding documents of the USA.
I like it when get closer to really be able to say "Freedom and justice for all."

As soon as it was passed, I argued the constitutionality of it with my brother, who is generally very religious. I was pretty sure today's verdict had to be the result.
Now, we only have to hope that the Supreme Court Justices don't vote along "party lines" on this one.
The judgment was very well written, and hopefully will be upheld.
