Thank heavens this site has never slid into the pit that some other sites, TG and otherwise have slid into. Still, once in a while, I have felt that the sex act between consenting lovers was an important part of the story. Not being particularly good at delicate descriptions that let every reader know exactly what was going on in exquisit, emotion filled detail without being somewhat graphic, I fell into the latter category. What I have determined, looking at the numbers, is that two lovers consumating their relationship is a turn-off for many readers. The number of readers plummets maybe 20-30 percent, and they never come back. That is unfortunate, because I feel they are missing out on a good story. Of course there may be another reason. "Oh, good, they finally fucked. Enough of this story, let's see if there is something else out there with more sex in it." If that's the reason they quit reading, fine. They're not the type of reader I am writing for, anyway. If I turned the reader off because the love making got too graphic for their taste, I'm sorry. The sex is not the story. If I ever stoop to writing for that, I never will, I will stop writing. That's just not what it's about.
So, if somewhat descriptive sex between two consenting lovers is not your cup of tea, please skip a few paragraphs and get on with the story. The interaction of the minds is far more important.

Pushing our buttons
Well, different things wind us up. I used to read some pretty explicit stories, but over the years as the reality of certain situations came close to home, they lost their glitter for me. Last night, being a bit bored, I went to a site that used to be a great attraction, but within a rather short time, I left, knowing that I simply could not fantasize about anything that smacked of the "JC Dugard" story, or anything resembling it either.
Still, there have been other stories that have helped me come to grips with certain areas in my own life. It is here that I finally came to realise that there are many others who struggle with certain areas in their lives too.

For my part, I turn away from such stories because...
...it's too painful a reminder that I have nobody to make passionate love to. I go to a very LGBT friendly church here and the pastor often speaks of love-making as a spiritual activity. This always makes me want to cry because, again, I have nobody to make love to. This makes me not read stories where people get married, or where they make love, especially if they're underage since that is, technically, child porn.
I suspect I am not alone in finding stories of passionate marriage or sex painful to read.
However, you are right. Normally, I just skip that part and move on. If the story is mostly about a marriage or love-making then I'll have to move onto the next story, but I will continue to read the other works of the author.

I think it is possible to make love without having sex. Maybe a warm cuddle and liking to do the same things. It isn't strictly heterosexual love in my stories either.
