By Stanman63 ! Synopsis:According to the movie Godzilla, he is pregnant! Now does that mean that Godzilla is female, intersexed, asexual or did he/she impregnate self? And should the monster be callled GODESSZILLA? |

They said Godzilla reproduced asexually. And the name Godzilla was coined from a movie long ago, and would be considered a crime to change it, it just wouldn't be Godzilla anymore mew, the name fits it just fine ;3

Godzilla
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Godzilla is only Godzilla in English. It's an attempt to spell in English characters the Japanese name which more conventionally would be written as Gojira. The English sound pairs dz/j and l/r are not easily told apart in Japanese; i.e. they are not phonemically different.
Godzilla isn't wrong, it's just the sounds of Japanese and English don't line up one-to-one.
One difference is that English speakers accent the middle syllable: gahd-ZIHLL-uh. Japanese say something more like: go-j(uh)-rah with the middle vowel less forceful instead of more. The name is probably based on combining the Japanese words for gorilla and whale, which is another good reason for the -illa ending in English. :)

The movie is entitled Gojira
released in 1954 and directed by Ishiro Honda. The music was written by Akira Ikufube, and the theme can be found here.

The name is a combination of Gorira (gorilla) and Kujira (Whale), the original description of the monster when the story was written (See Wikipedia under Gojira).
She was born for all the wrong reasons but grew up for all the right ones.

In creating his giant critter Ishiro Hondo started with the gorilla image, because he was a big fan of the American film King Kong,
which along with his concerns over nuclear annihalation was a major inspiration for his monster film. And Gojira wasn't transgender
but King Kong was. He didn't want to hurt Fay Wray, he wanted to BE her, but he was this big horrible ape thing. I know the feeling...

Japanese Monster movies
As I grew up on Long Island and thanks to Channel 5(Creatures Features) and Channel 11 I grew up on a steady diet of these movies(Plus Abbot and Costello every Sunday morning). I did an MAU story featuring Mothra and for years had another TG story idea(A sequel to my 2002 Fictionmania- The Hyperboard Wars) where Godzilla would make an appearance. As they say dying is easy, comedy is hard.
Godzilla or if you prefer, Gojira, is supposedly asexual.

I grew up in NYC in the same era. I also like Million Dollar Movie (ch9) and they would repeat movies multiple times in the early days.

...right after Claude Kirchner's Super Circus on Channel 9 with his puppet Clownie. The Opening always played the Theme from Gone with the Wind by Max Steiner. Once in the evening Monday through Friday and three times on Saturday and Sunday. I remember watching Rodan for the first time while peeking out from behind my mother's chair. Scariest moments of my child hood in a normal sense. Watched Godzilla (the Americanized version) and of course, King Kong, Son of Kong and Mighty Joe Young.

Remarkably
I remember where I was when I watched Godzilla for the first time. It was at my father's principal business(A motel in Suffolk County) and it was a Saturday night. It was 1971 I think and Channel 11(WPIX) was showing it.
Channel 9(WOR) used to show King Kong every Thanksgiving Day.
Old movies are rarely shown on weekday afternoons anymore. Local Programmers seem to think everyone rather watch talk shows, judge shows, or the same recent sitcoms or Law and Order shows that seven other channels offer on the same day.

If you watched Godilla movie with Matthew Broderick then Godzilla reproduces like an alligator or crocodile and lays 8 to 10 eggs for each godzilla creature. But if you watch Armageddon then the robotic Godzillas get taken out by a bulldog and an asteroid.
