I am so tired, but I can't sleep. I feel like there's a weight on top of me. Every breath I take seems to be harder to draw in. The weight on my chest seems to just get heavier. Part of me just wants to give up and not struggle any more. But ... I can't give up hope. Not yet.

Get it checked out
Heather,
is it simply stress or something else? Tightness in the chest, difficiulty breathing, fealing like there is a weight on your chest are possible signs of a heart attack. But stress can be bad too. Go to a health professional you trust and get evaluated and get help.
Your choice of words confuses me and worries me. Take care of yourself.

Surprising as it may sound...
many of those symptoms can be caused by mild asthma and a restricted airflow. That said, rolling to the side usually relieves SOME of that difficulty breathing. And, yes, asthma CAN suddenly strike an adult. (Been there, done that.)
Hope you're doing better, by the time you get around to seeing this.

Very true
Asthma is serious but usually controlable. But it needs to be actively treated and monitored as it makes you more at risk for complications from colds and flu. The any age bit is true. My sister's came on sudenly at age 12. A coworkers child developed it as a preschooler. Typically it is a childhood or teen onset but it could happen at any age.
The main thing is to find out what is wrong, Heather.

Hoping
I'm hoping these are physical symptoms because they are a lot easier to treat than if they are emotional symptoms. Hang on in there Heather.

Your symptoms could be anything and not to be fooled with. Before i had my heart valve replaced I felt the same way, I couldn't breath. Do not pass go and don't collect the two hundred dollars. You can't use your get out of the doctors card this time, Arecee
Thank you
Thank you so much, everyone. It really means a lot to me that people heard me and reached out to me. Last night, stuff that's been piling up on me seemed to suddenly all collapse on me at the same time. I had been trying to describe the depression, exhaustion, and helplessness I'd been feeling. As far as I know of, I'm okay physically. I'm still going through waves of depression, but it's starting to feel a bit more manageable than last night.
I'm glad things are looking
I'm glad things are looking a bit better today.
I can remember when we met @ RMR, and all the joy you just seemed to radiate.
I hope those feelings return to you soon.
