What is it about maid stories that so attracts us? If you search on Big Closet, there are over 30 pages of maid stores. On FM there are nearly 1,200 maid stories, and on storysite, nearly 1,000.

Whatever the attraction, we seem to love 'em. Lots of us seem to want to be them.

In 2001, I read a maid story by Karen Ann Summerfield that really caught my attention. It was pretty typical because it was narrative driven and ended up badly for the guy. But I thought it was a great premise and wondered what would happen if the poor maid had a voice of her own. Long story short, Karen Ann and I ended up writing Jacqui.

I'd argue that Jacqui is the mother of all maid stories. It's novel length, or almost so. While it has a great narrative, it's really character driven. Four key characters get a pretty big stage upon which to play out their stories.

It was also really fun to write. Karen Ann has a great imagination and is really quite kinky. She kept coming up with amazing story ideas. I'm more of an introvert. I kept wondering how the characters would react to the situations Karen put them in. And that's the beauty of Jacqui. It has an imaginative story and the voices and feelings of multiple characters.

Ultimately, and despite everything else such a long story can contain, this is a story about how you deal with the hand life deals you. The key characters in Jacqui arrive on the stage already damaged. The don't always make the best choices. But even characters who have to live in high, high heals, tight, tight corsets and chastity belts have a story to tell that can teach us about our own humanity.

I'm going to post Jacqui soon. It's been pretty much buried on Storysite for many years now and Karen and I think it's time for it to find a new audience. As I've done before, I hope to blog about the story as it gets posted in 13 not always perfect parts.

I hope you all enjoy this, and look forward to hearing from all of you.

Controversy!

I wonder if this'll spark a controversial debate? Anyway, I certainly don't want to be a maid, I couldn't even stand having one.

30 Pages?

How many stories is that? Not anywhere nearly as high as FM or even SS, I suspect. If you are into humiliation and subservience they're fine, I suppose. I don't expect you'll get much in the way of comments, even if you do get clicks.

I went outside once. The graphics weren' that great.

Jaqui

I read 'Jaqui' in a pre-published version a very long time ago when Karen-Anne sent it to me to get my initial impressions. I'm not a huge fan of maid stories myself but I see the attraction of scenarios in which a formerly powerful individual loses some or even all of their power. Maid stories are one example of that (the current story 'Maid to be a Man' by Maid Joy is one) and boss to secretary stories another. On a topical note (for UK readers) wouldn't it be fun for Michael (Lord) Ashcroft to find himself without his billions and forced to work for minimum wage - and pay UK tax for a change :)

'Jaqui' has a lot of the elements of the typical 'maid' scenario but differs in that the transformed individual has a voice too. As Kelly Ann says (I wonder if the use of double first names is a requirement here? :)) all the major players are flawed, some more than others, and the outcome is in doubt right until the end. As a genre it has just as much validity as the many school stories that are popular on BC and no more nor less realistic. Certainly worth a read and, I hope, a comment or two. Don't be shy.
