"In fact," he continued, pulling something out of his top drawer. "I'd like to offer you the chance to make a demo CD. You've got the type of voice that we're looking for."
I was completely shocked now! I wasn't good enough for a recording contract! Why would he be offering me one? And, and, he thought I was a girl! That could definitely be a problem! Sarah Carerra

The 'Shirley Temple' child labor protection act
I’ve really come to despise the self-serving, blood-sucking character of Megan’s father as portrayed in this first book. He charges her for agent’s and manager’s fees, and for every expense that benefits her in any way. (I wonder, does he charge her for all ordinary expenses of raising a child?) He books himself (and her) into expensive 5-star hotel suites and bills that to her. (He also excludes her friends because he wants to see if she can keep a secret.) Fortunately, in Real Life™, there are child labor laws on the books to protect young performing artists from parents like Megan’s dad who want to cash in on their kids.
And for this, a father who does for her what he does with all his other clients (because it’s just good business), poor Megan loves him (most of the time, anyway). So I read on, and hope that Megan gets her eyes opened enough to see past the rainbow to the truth about her dear devoted father. He certainly does bring a darker tone to an otherwise very sweet and sentimental story.
