Every 18 months to 2 years, I post how I can't write, with the hope that my muse will get her dander up and show me. Here is another of those attempts. And no, my knowing that she knows might still work. Reverse psychology, if you will.
For the last while, instead of writing stories, I have been perfecting a long held skill. That being the creation of barriers that stop me from writing those stories. Something, I'm sure in which I am not alone, but I thought I would write about some of my current favourites. If for no other reason than to start at the beginning of an idea and take it to an end.
Do you ever find yourself looking at My Stories and find yourself surprised how long ago you posted something. Today that happened to me with In This Land, my last Manny and Maude story. I knew it had been awhile, thought I was coming up on a year, but its actually been almost 16 months since I posted it. Yet, despite the next story, Who's the Fairest, being one of my goto stories to work on since I finished The Transformation of Gwri, it still feels like I have a long way to go.
Last September, October, and November was a very productive period of writing for me; however, since then I have basically been in a wasteland for writing.
In which we find Arcie lamenting about the forces of evil interrupting the creation of a masterpiece (or at least into something consisting of pixels shaped into characters, in turn being shaped into words, then sentences, then paragraphs...).
There is a question, or maybe it is a group of questions, that I have been trying to figure out how to ask for the last two or three months. Having gotten no closer to figuring out the proper way to phrase it, I just decided to throw it on the table, like a half a hog, and see if something can be made of it.
How important do readers want the TG aspect to be in a TG story?
As with everybody, a story teller has many paths he can travel. However, sometime you reach a fork in those paths where each seems as bright or dim as all the others. How can a choice be made about which to next travel?
