Alright, I babble a bit in the beginning, but then I move on to actual important things -- including the text to the right of the video where I break down the math. ( Click here to check it out ) | ||

Wasn't it Jim Henson who said, "Without faith, I am nothing," after all? No, wait, that was God... Sorry, common mistake to make... |

Very Informative And Very Sad
I watched your video and I couldn't agree with you more about the serious nature of this epidemic in the trans community. I split with my trans support group over this same issue. I put forth a motion that we add suicide prevention to our platform of causes we support in the community. I was really shocked when the moderator refused to get involved because she said we shouldn't make waves or rock the boat. One of the saddest stories here locally dealt with a 15 year old young person whose parents thought he was just Gay. They told their father at five years old that they were really a girl, played with Barbie dolls and designed dresses with a sketch pad. The mother rejected her child so he/she went to live with the father. They were so full of anger that they were lashing out against kids at school and becoming a real discipline problem. One night in 2006, the young girl got in an argument with her father and stormed off to her room. The father came into her bedroom a short time later and found her hanging from her closet rod. It makes me wonder how different that young woman's life might have been if the parents had taken the time to educate themselves about what their child was really dealing with. It struck me that she was so clearly Trans that I showed the story to my therapist. She agreed that the symptoms were classic. If we can save one life and spare someone else a life of pain, shouldn't we try? Some of the girls in my group need a lesson in compassion, apparently.

Jen
WTF?
How exactly is Suicide Prevention "rocking the boat" tell me? I would have left, too. NIMBY bitches.
I Guess That They Are Afraid To Be Seen In Public
I think some of them look at the group as just a place to go and they are afraid to be seen in the community. I pointed out to them that this issue affects everyone in the community. It makes no sense to me either. I just quit having any interest in going. I told them that we had a voice that needed to be heard. We need to educate parents of young children and teens, plus take an active role in raising awareness about this issue. Too many lives have already been destroyed by this and the time to act is now!
Hugs,
Jen
