Just to give some advance warning, I'm away for a week from monday 20th October. I'm going to Menorca where I hope to do lots of walking and birdwatching (as in ornithology!). It's a favourite place of mine, although I'm going on my own this year - it does mean I can do what I want every day.

I'm taking a small laptop with me, so I will be writing in the evenings at least some of the time, I do have a couple of books to read as well and there will still be the Guardian crossword to do battle with. However, I don't know if I'll be able to post anything, so expect me to be absent.

Talking of bird watching, I was out this morning in the driving rain at Radipole lake RSPB reserve and saw reedlings or bearded tits, a species which has eluded me for some time. So the soaking was worthwhile. Patience, or maybe perseverance eventually pays off.
