Sequelphobia - You loved the original so much, when the sequel comes out you have Sequelphobia, because you have the fear it won't live up to the original.
I like this word, not because I dislike sequels, but because it explains why, after I finished the Newly Chronicles, I do not do sequels. Fact of the matter is, when I was writing them, I never looked upon 'A Different Kind of Courage' as being a sequel. Though many of the characters and the setting was the same as in Tips, the tone and focus of ADKC was so very different as it make it a stand alone piece that could very well exist without needing to read Tips.
I expect there are some may disagree. Any who, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

There are what I call
There are what I call artificial sequels. These are the, it's so long or too big and thus incurs costs on time and resources we had to split it up.
The Fellowship of the Ring movie is an example being split into three movies.
Peter F. Hamilton's Night's Dawn Trilogy had each of the three books split into two for publication in the US and other countries.
As a kid, I remember watching Ben Hur and The Ten Commandments on vhs. The version we had on vhs cassette were split between two tapes because the tapes at that time couldn't hold the entire movie. Later the eight hour tapes came out which could hold it all. It was just a matter of technology which necessitated the split for a part 1 and part 2 in that specific case.
Usually I can understand the logic behind it, but sometimes the reverse can be done which in my opinion makes it better to get it all at once.
Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber is now published as a single trade paperback size book with all ten stories within, although really it's two stories.
Jack Vance's Tales of the Dying Earth combined several stories into one publication. One is a sequel to another and made it really one story you could go right into from the other.
These are just some of the things I think could be considered about sequels which is why I'm posting it.

Growing Up Jenny was more a continuation of God Bless the Child than a sequel. But after 120k words, how do you justify another 100k more.
Finding Jenny was a true sequel as it took place 6 years after the first.
Now I have Sequelphobia about Unreachable. But not that I fear the sequel, but that people will keep asking me when it will be published (It's all up to Random House people.)
